What Defencive Role Does Yemen's Naval Force Have Against US-Saudi Aggression?

Yemen: The Yemeni military naval capabilities have grown, and the US-Saudi concern over their development has increased. It is now able to strike the aggressor warships at sea.

During the past months, and specifically after the UN-sponsored truce in Yemen last April, the military parades in which the Yemeni army presents new military innovations have been repeated.

What distinguishes the recent parades is not only the large number of various weapons that have gone beyond what was shown during the previous shows, but also its indication of the rapid development that has occurred in the offensive and defensive capabilities of the Yemeni army during the past few years.

It is a development that stems mainly from field experiences that included the land and air fields, with a focus on the naval aspect as well, because of its great importance.

The naval force in Yemen, with the growth of its capabilities, has become a defensive force, and it is able to strike the aggressor warships of the Saudi coalition forces, in their various forms and types, and this has been confirmed by the Yemeni Armed Forces.

The development in capabilities was evident during the military parade held by the Yemeni Armed Forces, on the occasion of the 8th anniversary of the "September 21 Revolution", in Sana'a.

The Yemeni forces displayed dozens of advanced missile systems, naval weapons, air defenses, and modern naval cruisers, all produced by the Yemeni Military Industries Authority, in a message that many considered as a message to the countries of the US-Saudi aggression, which have become "in crisis and fear" in light of these advanced Yemeni capabilities.

The Western media also talked about the growing military naval power in Yemen in the face of the US and Saudi naval forces in the Red Sea, and it addressed a clear and explicit American concern. This American fear was reflected in the official statements of the necessity of its presence in the Red Sea, and support for the American security reinforcements.

In this regard, the US Navy recently announced the establishment of a new "task force" with its allies, to patrol the Red Sea off Yemen. Its mission was defined as "strengthening security in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden", and more precisely: "confronting arms smuggling into Yemen." These are, of course, pretexts, which Sana'a hastened to place within the circle of targeting by accelerating the development of naval capabilities.

The American move was not surprising. Last March witnessed movements and meetings of the American, Western, Gulf and Israeli military leaders, such as direct official meetings, and meetings on the sidelines of security activities, which took place in the UAE, Riyadh and Doha.

In these circumstances and at the field level, Hodeidah and Bab al-Mandab became part of the direct US military threat. The issue of controlling the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, along with the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea, has become among the main motives for the aggression against Yemen.

Naval Weapon Importance from Military Point of View

The battle against Yemen, from its first day, has been a comprehensive battle, on land, sea and air. Therefore, when Yemen reaches a stage of high military development, in order to have a naval deterrent force, this is evidence of the development, and the end of the superiority that the Saudi-Emirati coalition enjoyed at sea, where the US-Saudi countries practiced piracy and the seizure of ships.

The Yemeni naval force will have a very important role, and it will have an impact in terms of changing the military equation, in which aggression was superior in the maritime domain. This is what Yemeni Brigadier General Yahya Abdul Ghani told Al-Mayadeen Net.

Regarding the American concerns about this Yemeni naval weapon, Brigadier General Abdul Ghani said that "the Americans believe that the shipping lines are a monopoly for them, and that they can make a sea landing at any time, but now they have failed".

He pointed out that the sea lanes have become for the Yemeni army. And the American ships came under the army's range, adding that "the Yemenis are present in the maritime domain today, which impedes the American movement there. The Yemeni threats are clear in this regard."

It is noteworthy that the Minister of Defense in the Sanaa government, Major General Muhammad al-Atifi, said, last Thursday, that "Western and Zionist threats in Yemen's territorial waters are a blatant military intervention," stressing that "the National Governorate in Yemen and the Yemeni people, will confront these threats strongly, in accordance with the contents and texts of recognized international laws.

Concerning the military capabilities in the naval field, Brigadier General Abdul Ghani explained that "the enemies are fully aware of the great potentials that the Yemeni side has reached in the matter of naval power, and the extent of their impact on any military action that the US may undertake, whether through military intervention through a naval landing, or targeting Yemeni ports, or through the support of the aggression in connection with any military battle in which the naval weapon may enter.”

He added, "They know perfectly well that Sanaa has a military force and a weapon, through which it can impose the equation of deterrence in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab," stressing that "these weapons have become effective and have been tested, and the Americans know this well."

It is worth noting that sources revealed to Al-Mayadeen details related to the new ballistic and winged missiles. And they talked about the "Red Sea" surface-to-sea missile, which is one of the new missiles that was revealed, stressing that "it can hit any target in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea," revealing that "it was tested recently, and huge numbers of it were produced."

Regarding the Yemeni threats and discourses related to the naval weapon, he said that they are directed towards the two sides (the United States and the coalition countries). According to him, "the naval military issue is linked to the American, as well as to the Saudi-Emirati aggression coalition."

About the ability of the naval weapon to resolve the battle, the Yemeni brigadier general said that "the naval force has a great and destructive influence in all levels." According to him, the Yemeni army is now the one who controls the security of the Red Sea and the international shipping lanes, meaning that it "reduced the role of the US-Saudi-Emirati alliance, and the Zionist enemy as well, in the maritime domain, and this is what upset the Americans."
