Feb. 14 Over 9 Years: Over 80 Casualties in US-Saudi Aggression Crimes in Yemen

Yemen: The US-Saudi aggression has deliberately committed war crimes and acts of genocide on February 14 in the years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022. With brutal airstrikes and mercenary attacks, the aggression has targeted people, civilization, history, livelihoods, infrastructure, and civilian facilities in the provinces of Sa'adah, Sana'a, Hodeidah, Taiz, Mahwit, and Marib.

These crimes resulted in 19 martyrs and more than 60 injured, including children and women, in addition to the displacement of dozens of families, the destruction of livelihoods, and extensive damage to properties, shops, sewing workshops, food warehouses, and historic and cultural cities. The atrocities have caused immense suffering and produced shocking scenes that violate international laws and conventions.

Key Incidents:

2016: 36 Casualties in US-Saudi Aggression on the Historic City of Kokban, Mahwit

In Yemen, where history breathes the fragrance of civilizations, US-Saudi airstrikes on February 14, 2016, turned the historic city of Kokban into a battlefield. The attacks destroyed its ancient landmarks, erasing traces of Yemen’s grand history. The airstrikes directly killed seven people and wounded 29 others, including children and women, causing massive destruction, displacing families, and exacerbating suffering in a new crime added to the record of atrocities against the Yemeni people.

Kokban, once a peaceful city where children played in narrow alleys and women prepared meals in traditional homes, was suddenly transformed into a burning inferno. The aggression’s warplanes bombed civilian homes and historic sites, reducing them to rubble. The city's iconic gate, which had stood for centuries as a symbol of Yemen’s heritage, was completely destroyed.

2016: 26 Martyrs and Injured in US-Saudi Airstrikes on a Sewing Workshop in Sana'a

On February 14, a simple sewing and embroidery workshop in Shaoub District, Sana'a, was turned into a massacre after US-Saudi warplanes bombed the facility. The attack resulted in three civilian deaths and 23 injuries, mostly women and children, in addition to the destruction of surrounding homes and shops.

The sewing machines inside the humble workshop were used only to craft fabrics and children’s clothes—until the bombs reduced them to ashes. Survivors screamed for help amid the rubble and flames.

Among the victims was a young girl under ten, who worked alongside her mother to support their family. Reports indicate that the aggression’s airstrikes have destroyed over 300 small industrial and commercial facilities in Yemen since 2015, violating international laws that prohibit targeting civilian livelihoods.

Humanitarian organizations have called on the international community to hold the perpetrators accountable and prevent further destruction of Yemen’s struggling economy.

2016: Two Martyrs and Two Injured in US-Saudi Attack on Homes in Maran, Sa'adah

On the same day, the US-Saudi aggression committed another war crime in Maran, Haydan District, Sa'adah Province, by targeting civilian homes with direct airstrikes. The attack resulted in two martyrs and two injuries.

For many Yemeni families, their homes have become mass graves. The airstrikes shattered lives, leaving behind nothing but sorrow and devastation.

2017: US-Saudi Aggression Destroys Food Warehouses and a Hospital in Sana'a, Leaving Dozens of Casualties

On February 14, 2017, the aggression launched another war crime, targeting food storage facilities of the "Al-Kaboos" project in Jadar, Bani Al-Harith District, Sana'a. The strikes killed and wounded civilians, destroyed homes and businesses, and damaged a nearby hospital, worsening the humanitarian crisis.

2018: Two Children and Two Women Martyred in US-Saudi Airstrikes on a Home in Marib

On February 14, 2018, US-Saudi warplanes targeted the home of Ahmed Saleh Jaafar in Al-Hajlan area, Sirwah District, Marib. The attack killed two children and two women, destroyed the house, and severely damaged nearby homes, forcing more families into displacement.

2018: Two Women Martyred as US-Saudi Airstrikes Target a Water Station in Hodeidah

On the same day, the aggression targeted a water station in Al-Sharija, Al-Jarrahi District, Hodeidah. The attack killed two women who were fetching water, leaving thousands of residents without access to clean water.

2018: Six Martyrs and Injured in US-Saudi Airstrikes on a Home in Taiz

On the same day, US-Saudi warplanes bombed the home of citizen Sadiq Mohammed Musleh in Jaeishan, Al-Salou District, Taiz. The attack killed the homeowner and injured five members of his family, who were rushed to the hospital with critical injuries.

The repeated attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are clear violations of international humanitarian law. The destruction of homes, historical landmarks, food warehouses, and water sources reveals a systematic strategy to cripple Yemen’s ability to survive.
