The Palestinian Displacement Plan: U.S. Pressure and Regional Complicity

The Palestinian Displacement Plan: U.S. Pressure and Regional Complicity

Middle East: U.S. President Donald Trump insists on a plan to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan.

Despite rejection from both Egypt and Jordan, Trump arrogantly and insistently asserts that the two countries will comply, repeatedly saying, "They will do it," in a tone filled with threats and orders to open the Egyptian borders immediately. This suggests that displacement is inevitable and that there is no retreat from the decision—or so some believe.

A few days ago, the American website "Axios" reported that Trump had a phone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, during which they discussed the plan to evacuate Palestinians from Gaza. However, the Egyptian press—especially pro-Sisi media—did not highlight this news, raising many questions about the lack of attention to such a significant development that has occupied global discussions.

The Egyptian writer Jamal Sultan believes that Egypt’s silence regarding this phone call is evasive and raises concerns about what is happening behind closed doors. He particularly notes the timing of Trump’s call with Sisi, which was followed the next day by a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump in Washington. Their discussions reportedly covered several issues, including Gaza, prisoner exchanges, a ceasefire, the status of the Strip, and forced displacement.

A Clear Displacement Plan
Over the past few weeks, Trump has repeatedly mentioned the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, making it clear that this is no mere slip of the tongue but rather a publicly declared plan.

Evidence that this is serious includes statements from U.S. officials echoing Trump's remarks. For example, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, has expressed concern over Egypt’s growing military arsenal, urging Washington to reconsider its arms supply to Cairo. He questioned, "Why does Egypt need all this military equipment?"

There is no doubt that the forced displacement of Palestinians is an extension of Trump's so-called "Deal of the Century," which took three years to develop by a specialized team under his administration. The plan was designed to nullify the Palestinian refugees' right of return and to marginalize this right through American-Israeli maneuvers.

Trump's plan did not stop at denying Palestinians their right to return; it also sought to expel the remaining population and carve out Egyptian and Jordanian lands in illegal steps that violate international law and state sovereignty. The goal is to eliminate a unified Palestinian state while expanding the Zionist dream of a "Greater Israel," which includes ambitions of occupying Syria under the pretext of military operations like "Project Arrow of Bashan" and advancing a strategic initiative called the "David Corridor."

A Larger Plan Beyond Displacement
Sayyed Abdulmalik al-Houthi, leader of Yemen’s revolution , has revealed a broader Israeli plan in Syria under U.S. supervision. He emphasized in several speeches that Israel is working to infiltrate Syria toward the Sweida region, linking it to Syrian desert areas under U.S. occupation. This expansion aligns with the so-called "David Corridor," which aims to connect Israeli-controlled territories to the Euphrates River in Kurdish-controlled areas occupied by the U.S.

Sayyed Abdulmalik has pointed out that the Israeli occupation believes it has a clear opportunity to expand in Syria due to the lack of resistance to its advances. He also explained that Israel refers to its military actions in Syria as "Operation Arrow of Bashan," a name tied to an ancient Jewish myth that claims southern Syria and northern Jordan as part of an ancient Jewish kingdom.

Meanwhile, researcher Hashim Wajih al-Din argues that Trump's statements about displacing Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan confirm Washington’s determination to enforce Israel’s goals through war and blockade. The main objective of the war on Gaza, which lasted 15 months, was to expel Gazans and eliminate Palestinian resistance. However, Israel failed militarily due to the resilience of Palestinian fighters and the local population, forcing it to accept the conditions of the Palestinian resistance.

U.S. Pressure on Egypt and Jordan
Wajih al-Din suggests that if Egypt and Jordan refuse Trump's displacement plan, the U.S. will use economic and political pressure to force compliance. He does not rule out the possibility of a joint U.S.-British-Israeli military plan to destabilize Egypt and Jordan, similar to what happened in Syria, with the goal of weakening their armies and compelling them to accept forced displacement.

Dr. Mahyoub al-Hassam confirms that Trump has repeatedly urged Egypt and Jordan to accept the relocation of more than 1.5 million Palestinians from Gaza. Trump has insisted over multiple days that these countries will eventually comply. This, according to Hassam, suggests that Cairo and Amman may have already signaled some level of willingness, either explicitly or through indirect indicators during the war.

Evidence of this alleged agreement includes reports from news agencies that Egypt has imported a large number of prefabricated housing units and tents into Sinai, possibly preparing for an influx of displaced Palestinians.

Hassam also points to Jordan’s role in defending Israel by intercepting Yemeni and Iranian drones targeting Israeli territory. Additionally, both Egypt and Jordan have allowed the continued flow of weapons and supplies to Israel, with reports indicating that Egyptian ports facilitated arms shipments to Tel Aviv.

Will Palestinians Accept Forced Displacement?
One major flaw in Trump's plan is the assumption that Palestinians will accept forced displacement. The people of Gaza have endured 15 months of war, with over 160,000 casualties, including deaths, injuries, and missing persons, yet they have steadfastly refused to leave.

Moreover, resistance groups and their regional allies will likely oppose any forced relocation of Palestinians. The failure of Trump’s previous plans, including his original "Deal of the Century," suggests that this new displacement proposal will also face fierce resistance and could ultimately backfire on Washington and Tel Aviv.

Is Egypt Negotiating for a Better Deal?
Egyptian political analyst Reda Fahmy believes that while Egypt appears to reject the displacement plan, it is actually engaged in negotiations to secure the best possible deal before agreeing to it. He describes Jordan’s silence as tacit approval, suggesting that Amman fears American retaliation if it openly opposes the plan, especially given its dependence on U.S. aid, which amounts to $1.25 billion annually.

Some analysts believe that regardless of Egypt’s or Jordan’s stance, the displacement plan will not succeed because Palestinians themselves will resist leaving their land. The Gaza war has demonstrated that even after immense suffering and massacres, Palestinians remain resolute in their determination to stay.

A Strategic Distraction?
There is speculation that Trump's threats to Egypt and Jordan serve a dual purpose: first, to portray these regimes as nationalist heroes resisting American pressure, and second, to absorb public outrage in the Arab world after Israel's failure in Gaza. Reports that Egypt rejected a $260 billion offer to accept Palestinian refugees further support this theory, as they attempt to frame Cairo as a defender of Palestinian rights.

Ultimately, many observers believe that Trump's strategy is not only about displacement but also about reshaping the region’s political dynamics to benefit Israel while keeping Arab regimes under Washington’s control. However, just as previous American-Israeli plans have failed, this one may also collapse in the face of Palestinian resistance and regional opposition.
