News - Yemen: Yemeni Health Minister Dr. Ali Sheiban stated that Yemen has faced significant challenges in maintaining and improving medical services due to the ongoing US-Saudi war and blockade, which have deliberately targeted the health sector.

Speaking at the Fourth Vascular Surgery Conference and Second Cardiac Surgery Conference on Wednesday, Sheiban emphasized that despite the hardships, Yemen’s healthcare system has made notable advancements over the past decade, particularly in specialized services.

He highlighted the importance of keeping pace with medical advancements, fostering knowledge exchange, and improving vascular and cardiac surgery, which require precision and continuous development. He called for stronger collaboration between public and private sectors, as well as partnerships with universities and research centers.

Dr. Nabil Al-Madwahi, head of the Yemeni Vascular Surgery Association, stressed the importance of discussing challenges and ambitions in the field. The three-day conference features lectures, workshops, and discussions with 700 medical experts from Yemen and abroad.

Saudi Arabia, backed by the United States and regional allies, launched the war on Yemen in March 2015, claiming the goal of bringing the government of former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power.

The US-Saudi aggression continues to target neighborhoods and populated areas and destroy the infrastructure and capabilities of the country, in light of a suspicious international silence.

The war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead and displaced millions more. It has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases there.

Yemen's healthcare sector has faced immense challenges due to the years of war and blockade, leading to shortages in medical supplies, infrastructure damage, and limited access to healthcare services.
