Israel to Endorse Construction of 1,030 Illegal Settler Units in Occupied al-Quds
News- Middle East: Israeli authorities intend to approve construction of 1,030 new illegal settler units in two Palestinian neighborhoods on the southeastern outskirts of East al-Quds, irrespective of international outcry against the Tel Aviv regime’s land expropriation and settlement expansion policies in the occupied territories.
According to Hebrew-language media outlets, 380 housing units are expected to be constructed in the Nof Zion settlement near Jabal al-Mukaber, in addition to a school, two synagogues, and commercial centers
Another 650 housing units, commercial buildings, an elementary school, a synagogue, a community center, and a kindergarten will also be built near the Sur Baher neighborhood, between the Ramat Rachel kibbutz and Har Homa settlement.
Israeli settlements are choking the occupied city of al-Quds and besieging its Arab neighborhoods, placing them at risk of Judaization and displacement.
This comes as part of the occupying Tel Aviv regime’s plan to establish what is called “Greater Jerusalem” by “legitimizing” the annexation of the settlements sitting on its Palestinian-owned lands.
More than 700,000 Israelis live in over 230 settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the West Bank and East al-Quds.
The international community views the settlements as illegal under international law and the Geneva Conventions due to their construction on occupied territories.
The UN Security Council has condemned Israel’s settlement activities in several resolutions.
In July 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) declared Israel’s decades-long occupation of historical Palestine illegal.
The ICJ demanded the evacuation of all existing settlements in the West Bank and East al-Quds. It was mere words.
