News - Yemen: The Military Media Unit has released footage showing the wreckage of a US MQ-9 unmanned reconnaissance drone, which the Yemeni Armed Forces announced they had shot down over Sana’a Governorate on Saturday, April 19, 2025.

The footage reveals scattered fragments of the destroyed aircraft, clearly bearing logos and markings indicating it is a US military drone.

According to the Military Media, the drone was brought down using a domestically produced surface-to-air missile.

The footage was released just hours after the Yemeni Armed Forces announced the downing of the second drone of this type in less than 24 hours—and the sixth MQ-9 drone shot down during April alone.

On Friday, the Military Media also aired footage of a similar US drone being shot down in the skies over Sana’a Governorate.

Washington’s drones continue to fall one after another in Yemen's provinces. The Yemeni Air Defenses recently brought down their 18th advanced MQ-9 Reaper over Al-Jawf.

The downing of 20 drones in just a year and a half stands as a powerful testament to the growing capabilities of the Yemeni Armed Forces and to an escalating confrontation fueled by a determined national will. 

The average unit cost of an MQ-9 is estimated at $33 million, which means the American loss from the downing of the drones in Yemen is already more than $600 million.
