News - Middle East: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Israel has never been able to wage an attack on the nation in the past and it will not be able to do so in the future.

In an interview with Russia’s RT television network published on Saturday, Araghchi noted that even with the support and help of the US, the occupying regime will not be capable of carrying out military actions against the Islamic Republic.

“As I said, we can defend ourselves even against the US, and the United States knows how capable we are,” he added.

“The Israeli regime also knows what our defense capabilities are and what our response to any attack is.”

‘Iran, Russia, China working towards global peace’

The top diplomat also emphasized that Iran has been strengthening its ties with Russia and China in recent years.

He further said that the three countries are “serious” about taking “effective steps towards international peace.”

‘Tehran-Moscow ties stronger than ever’

Meanwhile, Araghchi hailed bilateral ties between Iran and Russia, which are both subject to illegal Western sanctions.

Tehran-Moscow relations “have never been so close and so strong” than at the current moment, he said.

In January, the two countries signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreement for long-term cooperation in the fields of politics, defense, economy, security, trade, investment, energy, infrastructure and other areas. 

Araghchi said the deal “raises the level of our relations to a strategic level. Major economic projects are underway between us. The volume of trade between us has increased tremendously.”

Despite harsh Western restrictions, Iran and Russia are expanding their relations while “not waiting for the sanctions to be lifted,” the Iranian foreign minister added.

Tehran and Moscow “have the same and close positions on many international issues,” he stressed.

“I do not want to say that there are no disagreements between us. Sometimes there are also differences of opinion, but in most cases we have close positions with each other and, most importantly, we are in constant exchange of views.”
