News - Middle East: The  Eye of Humanity Center for Rights and Development condemned the heinous crime committed by the Israeli occupation army in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, which resulted in the martyrdom of five journalists due to the deliberate bombing of homes. This raises the number of journalists killed since the start of the aggression to 222.

The center stated in an official statement that this repeated and systematic targeting of journalists can only be seen as a blatant attempt to silence the free voice and cover up the horrific crimes committed against civilians in Gaza, in a flagrant violation of all international covenants, foremost among them the Geneva Conventions and UN Security Council Resolution 2222, which calls for the protection of journalists during armed conflicts.

The statement pointed out that targeting media professionals who carry cameras and words instead of weapons is a war crime that requires accountability and constitutes a serious threat to press freedom and the world’s right to know the truth.

The center called on the international community, human rights organizations, and the United Nations to take immediate action to stop these serious violations, provide full protection for journalists, and hold perpetrators accountable to ensure they do not evade punishment.

The Center emphasized that silence over these crimes is not only complicity but also participation in entrenching a culture of impunity and encouraging further violations against innocents.

The killing has turned the month of May, which marks World Press Freedom Day, into a graveyard for journalists in Gaza.

At least 125 Palestinians, including many children, fell victim to the latest wave of strikes across the besieged strip.

The total death toll from the regime’s genocide since October 2023 has now exceeded 53,300, with over 121,000 others wounded.
