Strategic, Military Importance of Haifa Port in Occupied Territories

News - Middle East: The Yemeni Armed Forces announced the decision to impose a maritime navigation blockade on Haifa Port in the occupied territories, as part of Yemen’s support and backing for the Palestinian people and their valiant resistance.

Haifa Port, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, is the largest among all the ports of the Zionist entity and plays a pivotal role in the import and export movement to the occupied territories. It enjoys a strategic location in northern occupied Palestine (Israel), being close to European and Mediterranean markets.

The port contains multiple transport and logistics facilities, making it a hub for both maritime and land transportation, enhancing its capabilities as a major commercial gateway for the region. It is also an important industrial center, hosting large factories and companies, some linked to chemical and petroleum industries, which further boosts its status as a vital facility for the Zionist industry and economy.

According to data and information, millions of tons of goods pass through Haifa Port annually. The port handles more than 35 percent of the Zionist entity’s import and export volume, with petroleum, raw materials, industrial products, and grains leading imports. Exports include chemical products, medicines, advanced technologies, and more.

In 2023, the volume of trade passing through Haifa Port was estimated at over 30 million tons of goods, reflecting its major role in strengthening the Zionist economy.

According to the military media of the Lebanese Resistance Movement Hezbollah, the Hudhud drone, which penetrated several strategic Zionist sites during the recent war, revealed that Haifa Port is both a naval base and an important economic facility. It includes ship maintenance centers, Unit 3800 computing facilities, Haifa naval base, the main warehouse, and the supply department in Haifa’s dockyard, along with the deep mission unit - Yastam, and the submarine unit including its pier and marina, as well as the submarine command building known as "Asheetit 7."

Most of the Zionist entity’s warships are stationed at Haifa Port, including the logistic support ship Bat Yam, Saar 4.5 ships, Dvora patrol boats, and Saar 6 ships. The port also contains the Carmel and Mizrahi docks alongside container ships and commercial operations.

Since the onset of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, Yemen has emerged as one of the most active regional forces confronting the Zionist regime militarily. In response to the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the continued siege on the Palestinian people, the Yemeni Armed Forces have launched a series of escalating operations, including missile and drone strikes as well as naval and aerial blockades, targeting Israeli infrastructure and ports.

Initially focusing on the Red Sea and Umm Al-Rashrash port, Yemen successfully disrupted Israeli maritime activity. More recently, the Yemeni Armed Forces expanded their campaign by announcing a naval blockade on Haifa Port in northern occupied Palestine, signaling a strategic escalation in both range and intent.

This latest development comes amid growing concern among Israeli and American officials about Yemen's expanding military reach and sophisticated capabilities. The move has also prompted widespread regional reactions, with resistance factions hailing Yemen’s actions as a major step in pressuring Israel and redefining the regional balance of power.
