German airline Lufthansa announced today that it would cease operations of several routes to Lod Airport, transferring those routes to Swiss International Air Lines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and ITA Airways, along with Eurowings and Brussels Airlines Cargo.
Lufthansa is one of Europe’s key carriers operating daily flights to the Israeli entity. On Monday, it had already announced a temporary suspension of its flights to occupied Palestine until next month, as Yemeni missile strikes continue to target Lod Airport in support of Gaza.
The move has intensified criticism of Germany, widely seen as a strategic ally and key supporter of the Israeli regime in its brutal war on Gaza.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that it is no longer possible to justify the crimes in Gaza as merely a war on Hamas, and noted that he would call Netanyahu to urge restraint. Meanwhile, Germany's Foreign Minister asserted that Berlin "will not accept the displacement of Gaza’s population."
Earlier, the German parliament also condemned the Israeli-imposed blockade on Gaza, accusing the regime of starving civilians by preventing humanitarian aid from entering.
