Hamas Official Lauds Yemeni Support for Gaza, Highlights Economic Impact on Israeli Enemy

News - Middle East: Sami Abu Zuhri, a senior official in the Hamas movement, expressed the Palestinian people's deep appreciation for the exceptional operations carried out by the Yemeni Armed Forces. He described the Yemeni people's stance in support of Gaza as "a debt upon their shoulders."

Abu Zuhri noted that the “blessed” Yemeni missiles reaching deep into occupied Palestine and paralyzing the airports of the Zionist entity have had significant economic and security repercussions for the entity.

He added that these operations directly impact the enemy's economy and security, cause major disruption, and send a strong message to the world that Gaza is not facing aggression alone.

Commenting on Israel’s response to a proposed agreement, Abu Zuhri stated that it represented a “bad formula,” lacking any commitment to a ceasefire or withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and maintaining Israeli control over the aid delivery mechanism.

He emphasized that Hamas was surprised by the Israeli response, which was completely contrary to the version the movement had accepted and relayed to the US envoy through mediators.

Abu Zuhri described the proposal put forward by “war criminal Netanyahu” as an attempt to impose surrender on the Palestinian people through unjust conditions. He stressed that Hamas has not yet announced its official position but will do so soon.

Since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, Yemen has emerged as a pivotal regional actor in the confrontation, aligning itself firmly with the Palestinian resistance. The Yemeni Armed Forces, under the leadership of the Sana'a-based government, have launched a series of strategic military operations—including missile and drone strikes as well as naval and aerial blockades—targeting Israeli-linked infrastructure and shipping routes.

What began with the disruption of maritime traffic in the Red Sea soon evolved into more expansive campaigns, affecting key Israeli economic hubs such as the port of Eilat and Lod Airport. In May 2025, the Yemeni military escalated further by declaring a naval blockade on Haifa Port, a major economic artery for Israel, handling over a third of the country's cargo volume.

These operations form part of Yemen’s declared policy of pressuring Israel to end its war on Gaza and lift the siege. The attacks have triggered widespread disruptions in international shipping, tourism, and air travel, with dozens of global airlines suspending operations to and from Israeli airports.
