Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported that an Israeli drone fired two guided missiles at a vehicle on Monday afternoon as it was traveling along the road linking the village of Zefta to Numairiyah region.
The car went up in flames following the aerial attack, and was pushed to the side of the road by the force of the explosion.
The strike came a day after a member of the Hezbollah resistance movement was killed and three Lebanese civilians were injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a motorcycle on the Chehabiyeh-Kfar Dounin road in southern Lebanon.
A Lebanese security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, identified the victim as Ali Shafiq Qanso.
He said three civilians happened to be passing by at the time of the airstrike.
A source from Lebanon's Civil Defense stated that rescue teams had transported the victim's body and three injured individuals to a hospital in the southern city of Tyre, adding that one of the wounded is in critical condition.
Following significant losses sustained over nearly 14 months of conflict and the failure to meet its objectives in the offensive against Lebanon, Israel was compelled to accept a ceasefire with Hezbollah. This ceasefire took effect on November 27, 2024.
Since the agreement took effect, the occupying forces have been assaulting Lebanon, including airstrikes throughout the Arab nation, breaching the ceasefire.
On January 27, Lebanon announced its decision to extend the ceasefire with Israel until February 18.
Although the deadline of February 18 has passed, Israel continues to maintain its occupation of five significant regions in southern Lebanon, namely Labbouneh, Mount Blat, Owayda Hill, Aaziyyeh, and Hammamis Hill, all situated near the border.
Lebanon has condemned the continued presence of Israeli military forces, viewing it as a violation of the ceasefire agreement and the established timeline for withdrawal. Senior officials in Beirut have expressed their commitment to take “all necessary measures” to remove the occupying troops from the nation.
