News- Middle East: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stressed Iran’s resolve to strengthen relations with Qatar based on the principle of good neighborliness and mutual interests.

The remarks came on Tuesday during a telephone conversation with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani after Iran imposed a halt to the Israeli-US aggression by conducting a successful retaliatory operation.

He said the Islamic Republic will not allow its friendly relations with other regional countries to be affected by the evil acts of Israel and the United States.

He also praised the positions of high-ranking Qatari officials in condemning American and Israeli attacks and their constructive efforts towards preventing the escalation of regional insecurity.

On June 13, Israel launched a blatant aggression against Iran, assassinating many high-ranking military commanders, nuclear scientists, and ordinary civilians.

On June 22, the United States joined Israel and bombed three Iranian nuclear sites in a grave violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

In response, Iranian armed forces launched a wave of missiles at al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest American military base in West Asia.

A day after, Iran, through its successful retaliatory operations both against the Israeli regime and the US, managed to impose a halt to the Israeli-US aggression.

Araghchi said that the attack on the US base was carried out within the framework of the country’s right to self-defense and in response to the US military aggression against Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty, adding that the operation should not be considered an action against the friendly and brotherly government of Qatar.

The Qatari prime minister, for his part, emphasized his country's commitment to play a constructive role in preserving regional stability.

Also on Tuesday, the Iranian deputy foreign minister for political affairs appreciated the constructive role played by Qatar to help prevent the escalation of insecurity in the region.

In a phone call with Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed Al-Khulaifi, Majid Takht-Ravanchi said the Islamic Republic will not allow the Zionist regime and the United States to cause division among regional states through their evil acts.

Referring to the friendly and strong relations between the Iranian and Qatari nations, he also underlined Tehran's resolve to enhance ties with Doha.

The Qatari official, for his part, recalled the necessity of joint efforts by all countries in the region to protect security and stability, emphasizing Doha's determination to contribute to that aim.

Iran’s defensive action not against Qatar: FM spox

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the attack on the US base was conducted under Article 51 of the UN Charter and in response to the US military assault against the country.

Iran’s defensive action should in no way be regarded as a move against the friendly and neighboring country of Qatar, he added, expressing Iran’s commitment to its deep-rooted relations with the Persian Gulf Arab state.

The spokesman further noted that Iran has always adhered to the principle of good neighborliness in its ties with Qatar and other neighboring countries.
