Hamas Consults on Latest Gaza Ceasefire Proposal

Hamas Consults on Latest Gaza Ceasefire Proposal

News - Middle East: Hamas is engaging with Palestinian faction leaders to discuss a new ceasefire proposal received from mediators, aiming to end Israeli aggression in Gaza and ensure unrestricted aid access.

The Palestinian resistance movement said on Thursday it will submit its final decision to the mediators after the conclusion of these consultations.

The proposal follows reports that Israel has agreed to a near-complete withdrawal from Gaza under a potential 60-day ceasefire.

Israeli media indicates that a limited military presence would remain in the Morag Corridor, separating Gaza’s southern and northern regions.

The deal includes a phased exchange of 10 living captives and 18 deceased ones for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

Trump says people in Gaza 'gone through hell'

The US president expressed strong support for the Netanyahu regime despite mounting evidence of abuses by Israeli forces in Gaza, saying that Palestinians in Gaza have “gone through hell”.

“I want the people of Gaza to be safe, more importantly,” Trump told reporters when asked if he still wanted the US to take control of Gaza. “I want to see safety for the people of Gaza. They’ve gone through hell.”

16 Palestinians  killed and dozens injured

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes and artillery attacks continue to devastate Gaza.

On Thursday night, 16 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured in an attack targeting people awaiting aid trucks east of Khan Yunis.

In Rafah, seven were killed and 30 wounded in airstrikes northwest of the city.

Additional strikes in Gaza City and Deir al-Balah claimed over a dozen lives, with five more killed in eastern Gaza City.

A Palestinian footballer also succumbed to injuries from a prior airstrike on his home in the Maghazi refugee camp.

‘Last lifelines for survival being cut off’ in Gaza: Guterres

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, on Thursday warned of dire consequences if fuel is not allowed into the Gaza Strip.

“Without an urgent influx of fuel, incubators will shut down, ambulances will be unable to reach the injured and sick, and water cannot be purified,” Guterres wrote on X.

He reiterated that the UN is prepared to deliver humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in Gaza, but must be allowed to carry out its work “safely and at scale”.

Palestinian resistance groups have criticized US-backed aid distribution centers in Gaza, alleging they aim to undermine UNRWA and advance forced displacement and ethnic cleansing as part of US President Donald Trump’s broader plans.

The United Nations and other aid organizations have rejected cooperation with the GHF system, citing violations of humanitarian principles.

Dr. Mads Gilbert, a veteran emergency medicine doctor in Gaza, described the aid operations as a war crime, accusing them of using food to lure and target starving civilians.

On Tuesday, Trump urged Hamas to accept the 60-day ceasefire, claiming Israel has agreed to the terms. However, the US recently approved a $510 million weapons sale to Israel, reinforcing its military support amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza, which has killed at least 57,130 Palestinians and wounded 135,170 since October 7, 2023, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
