News - Middle East: Unity among the Abrahamic religions is the sole effective response to rising global injustice, according to an Iranian official.

 Mohammad Hassan Akhtari, head of the Supreme Council of the Ahl al-Bayt World Assembly, made the remarks at a Tehran conference on Wednesday.

The gathering, which included Shia, Sunni, and Jewish scholars, focused on practical steps to resist US-Israeli aggression against Iran.

Akhtari praised recent supportive statements from figures such as Iraq’s Ayatollah Ali Sistani and Egypt’s Al-Azhar grand imam Ahmed el-Tayeb, but warned that declarations alone are insufficient.

He urged faith leaders to translate solidarity into concrete measures against oppression.

He also called on Christian authorities, citing the misuse of religious rhetoric by US President Donald Trump, to clarify that such political actors do not represent genuine Christian values.

Mowlavi Esḥaq Madani, chairman of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, underscored the shared mission of all prophets and the imperative to combat injustice.

Expressing alarm over rising secularism, he urged unity not only between Shia and Sunni Muslims but among all monotheistic faiths.

Rabbi Younes Hammami Lalezar, leader of Iran’s Jewish community, emphasized that peace is a universal religious aspiration.

Citing Jewish scripture, he stated that slaying an innocent person is akin to destroying all humanity, and condemned recent mass-casualty attacks.

He criticized international bodies for their silence during these aggressions and highlighted Iran’s 300-year record of non-aggression and religious tolerance.

While reaffirming that Iran does not initiate wars, Hammami pledged that the nation will not remain silent in the face of attacks on its scientists and territory.
