In a statement on Wednesday, the Arab Parliament stated that the repeated attacks by the Israeli regime on the Syrian and Lebanese territories are a “flagrant violation” of the principles of international law and pose a “serious threat” to the two countries’ sovereignty and the stability of the entire region.
The statement warned that the continuation of these “unacceptable” assaults will “further heighten tension and instability in the region.”
The attacks come amid Israel’s systematic policy to "impose fait accompli by force in total disregard of international legitimacy and the relevant United Nations and Security Council resolutions," the statement said.
The parliament reiterated its strong rejection of any practices that undermine the sovereignty of Arab states, stressing that regional security can only be achieved through full adherence to international law, respect for the states’ sovereignty, and non-interference in their internal affairs.
The parliament also affirmed its full support for Lebanon and Syria in their efforts to maintain their territorial integrity and sovereignty, urging the international community to take “immediate and urgent action” to stop this “serious escalation.”
The statement came as Israeli warplanes on Tuesday intensified their strikes against Lebanon, launching a wave of deadly air raids in the northern Bekaa Valley.
The airstrikes left a dozen people dead in the Bekaa region, including seven Syrians near al-Hermel city.
It was the deadliest attack since Israel and the Hezbollah resistance movement agreed to a ceasefire, which came into effect in November last year.
Under the agreement, Israel was obligated to fully withdraw its forces from Lebanon. However, it has maintained a military presence in five areas, in clear violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
The Israeli military has also been launching airstrikes against military installations, facilities, and arsenals belonging to Syria’s now-defunct army since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad.
On Tuesday, Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes against installations once belonging to Assad's army but now used by the militant forces of the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) regime in the southwestern province of Suweida.
The strikes came as HTS forces have initiated an offensive in Suweida following fatal confrontations between Druze and Bedouin factions, resulting in the deaths of dozens of people and injuries to hundreds of others.
Also on Wednesday, the Israeli army launched air raids on the Syrian military headquarters and near the presidential palace in the capital, Damascus.
