The remarks were made during a televised interview on Wednesday by Ahmad Norouzi, head of the World Service of the broadcasting authority, which is officially known as the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).
The official was referring to the attack that struck the IRIB’s headquarters in the capital Tehran on June 16, leading to the martyrdom of two journalists.
‘Hallmark of Israel’s total disregard for limits’
The attack was part of a broader pattern of targeting journalists, Norouzi noted, comparing it to the regime’s killing of as many as 230 journalists over 630 days of an ongoing genocidal war against the Gaza Strip.
During the strike, “the whole world saw that the Zionist regime recognizes no boundaries,” he said, adding that by attacking the IRIB’s buildings, Tel Aviv had sought to replicate in Iran, the war that it has been waging against media freedom in Gaza.
‘A moment media history must remember’
The official emphasized that the Zionist regime’s attack on IRIB must not be erased from the history of the global media, detailing the World Service’s efforts at broadcasting the aspects of the heinous atrocity to the world.
“The regime has committed countless crimes. We’re working to internationalize this campaign and pursue accountability for this atrocity. What happened wasn’t just an assault on IRIB, it was an opportunity for the world to take a closer look at a regime that knows no limits to its brutality.”
The assault took place as part of a 12-day Israeli-imposed war that claimed the lives of at least 935 people, including senior military officials, nuclear scientists, and civilians.
Norouzi noted how the unprovoked aggression was followed by numerous journalists’ contacting the IRIB, sympathizing with the Iranian people, and requesting to visit the Islamic Republic to report on the aggression and its aftermath.
Around 100 international journalists requested to reach the country to cover the various aspects of the Israeli brutality, he said.
As many as 15 of those have been selected to report on the atrocities, some of whom have already reached Iran to avail themselves of the “exceptional opportunity,” Norouzi noted.
The journalists would be attending an event, titled “Condemnation of Terrorism against Media,” which would be hosted by the Islamic Republic’s Sobh Media Festival. The event would go underway as of Thursday, featuring the attendants’ paying tribute to the media professionals, who were martyred during the Israeli assault, as well as a visit by them to the targeted facilities.
Also attending the televised interview, journalist and political commentator Richard Medhurst, who is among the journalists travelling to Iran, criticized the Western media bias and highlighted Iran’s respect for freedom of expression.
Medhurst said it was his duty to report the truth from Iran, which he described as the “capital of anti-imperialism.”
