UNRWA Urges Global Action to End Gaza Blockade

UNRWA Urges Global Action to End Gaza Blockade

News - Middle East: The United Nations has reported that 69 Palestinian communities in the Occupied West Bank have been displaced since 2023 due to escalating violence from Israeli settlers.

According to a statement from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Palestine, approximately 2,895 Palestinians have been forced to leave their homes over the past two years.

OCHA attributes this displacement to a coercive environment fostered by increasing settler violence and restrictions on access to land and resources.

OCHA has underscored that the intensification of settler activities has led to unbearable living conditions, prompting families to abandon their homes and land.

The report indicates that 45 percent of the displaced families originate from the Ramallah Governorate, with significant numbers also from Al-Khalil, Bethlehem, Nablus, Tubas, Salfit, Quds, and Ariha Governorates.

Notably, OCHA recorded a spike in settler attacks from July 8 to 14, documenting at least 30 incidents that targeted Palestinian civilians, resulting in casualties and property damage. Of those displaced, 1,309 individuals came from Ramallah, while other severely affected areas include Hebron, Bethlehem, Nablus, Tubas, Salfit, Jerusalem, and Jericho.

The report further highlights that nearly one-third of those displaced in 2025 have originated from the Jordan Valley region.

In addition, data from the Palestinian Authority’s Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission revealed that over 2,153 settler assaults occurred in the first half of 2025.

These assaults resulted in the deaths of four Palestinians and included incidents of village raids, arson attacks on homes, shootings, land seizures, and the establishment of new outposts.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued a renewed call for worldwide action to address Israel’s ongoing blockade of aid to the Gaza Strip, warning that inaction equates to complicity in the starvation of Palestinians.

In a social media post on Sunday, UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini revealed that the agency has been unable to deliver any aid to Gaza since March 2nd.

“I’ve been searching for something to feed my children, but there is nothing,” he lamented, adding, “How can one respond to such messages of despair? It shames me and amplifies the feeling of helplessness.”

Lazzarini pointed out that food supplies are just a few kilometers away and emphasized that UNRWA has enough stock outside Gaza to support the entire population for the next three months.

“We have not been allowed to bring any aid in since March 2nd,” he noted.

He characterized the situation as a man-made crisis, facilitated by the impunity afforded to the Israeli regime. Highlighting the urgent need for political intervention, Lazzarini stressed that only decisive political will can put an end to the ongoing starvation.

“Only political will and leadership can reverse full-fledged starvation,” he asserted.

In the past 24 hours, Gaza has reported 18 additional deaths related to starvation, bringing the total since October 2023 to 86, including 76 children. Approximately 17,000 children in Gaza are currently suffering from acute malnutrition.
