In a statement issued Sunday, the Monitor said that airdrops fail to meet the basic needs of the population and instead serve as another form of degrading treatment and violation of Palestinian dignity. It warned of the dangers involved in dropping aid into densely populated areas, noting that the majority of Gaza’s population is crammed into less than 15 percent of the territory.
The Monitor also cautioned that this method may be used as a manipulative tactic to deflect growing international pressure over Israel’s starvation policy, which has already led to a humanitarian catastrophe. It cited 55 officially recorded deaths due to hunger in just one week.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini also emphasized that airdropped aid will not stop the worsening famine in Gaza and could even result in civilian deaths.
In remarks made on Saturday, Lazzarini stated: "Airdropping aid over Gaza is a distraction and a smokescreen. It is costly, ineffective, and potentially lethal to civilians."
Facing growing international pressure and UN warnings of mass famine in Gaza, the Israeli enemy announced the resumption of air-dropping humanitarian aid. The initial phase includes seven platforms carrying flour, sugar, and canned goods, in coordination with relief agencies. Additional airdrops by countries like the UK and UAE are expected to begin Sunday night.
The Israeli enemy also claims to have established safe corridors and temporary ceasefires in crowded areas. However, over 100 aid organizations warn that these limited efforts fall short, stressing the urgent need to open land routes to prevent a full-scale humanitarian collapse.
