The Foreign Minister strongly condemned the horrific Saudi crime in which three Yemeni civilians were tortured—one martyred and the others severely injured—after being arrested in Jizan. The victims, from Al-Dhaher and Haydan districts in Sa'adah province, were reportedly burned and violently whipped by Saudi soldiers in an act of degrading and inhumane torture.
In a formal letter addressed to the United Nations, Amer called for "an immediate and transparent investigation into this heinous crime, prosecution of the perpetrators, and urgent measures to halt Saudi Arabia’s repeated violations and protect Yemeni civilians from further assaults."
He emphasized that the international community’s silence in the face of such atrocities encourages continued impunity and undermines the UN’s credibility in defending human rights globally.
Amer stressed that this incident is not isolated but rather "part of a recurring pattern of violations and savage crimes" perpetrated by Saudi border guards against Yemeni civilians, particularly in border regions.
“These acts,” he said, “are not only brutal crimes against individuals but also flagrant violations of key international conventions, including the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the Convention Against Torture.”
The ongoing Saudi-American-Israeli aggression and blockade against Yemen has plunged the nation into one of the most severe humanitarian crises in modern history. Among its most harrowing consequences is the silent war being waged along the Saudi-Yemeni border, where economic desperation collides with systemic brutality.
One particularly tragic case that encapsulates this crisis is that of Abdullah Ali Qassem Al-Shamri, a young man from the Haydan district of Sa’adah. Driven by poverty and the urgent need to provide for his family, Abdullah crossed into Saudi territory in search of work—only to be captured, tortured, and burned to death by Saudi border guards. His crime: attempting to survive.
This tragedy is not an isolated incident but part of a deeply rooted and escalating pattern. Dozens of Yemenis—particularly from border regions—have faced similar fates, either killed under torture, disappeared, or returned with life-altering injuries. Survivors recount scenes of burning metal used to brand flesh, walking barefoot over hot coals, and being forced to witness the slow death of fellow detainees.
