Israeli Military Lacks Clear Vision for Next Stage of Gaza Genocide: Report

Israeli Military Lacks Clear Vision for Next Stage of Gaza Genocide: Report

News- Middle East: The Israeli military is reportedly at a loss to know where the Tel Aviv regime’s no-holds-barred war of genocide on Gaza is headed, warning authorities about the consequences of their refusal to reach a deal towards ending the now-nearly-22-month aggression.

Reporting on Monday, Israeli army radio said chief of staff Eyal Zamir and the political leadership had fallen out over the lack of clarity in the area of the regime’s war goals.

It said “tensions have reached a peak” between the military chief and prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet, which is known for prioritizing unprecedented far-right political leanings.

Zamir is demanding that the political level grant the army “strategic clarity,” warning that the cabinet has not convened for a long time and the army lacks a clear vision for the next stage, the report added.

“The army is not receiving any orders or clear instructions.”

The absence of a clear vision has sustained, the radio underlined, since May, when the regime ordered the army to push through with the regime’s so-called “Operation Gideon's Chariots.”

The operation was ordered after the regime refused to extend a ceasefire deal with the Gaza Strip’s Hamas resistance movement following expiry of a previous accord in January.

It has been internationally condemned for what critics have called its intensified devil-may-care attitude towards civilian casualties and suffering. The feature has manifested in the genocide’s drastically heightened death toll, which has now topped 60,800 civilians, mostly women and children.

The report went on to note that, as Tel Aviv has refused to put an expiry date on the operation, “the political leadership is being asked to decide where things are heading from here.”

Zamir, it claimed, is pushing for a fresh agreement with Hamas, saying, “Flexibility can be shown, and efforts must be made to reach a deal.”

By its manifesto, the operation allegedly seeks to “defeat” Hamas, “destroy” its military and governing capabilities, and “take control” over three-quarters of the Gaza Strip.

The chief of staff, himself, warned in April that the movement has not been defeated as the operation’s orchestrators had hoped, while the Israeli military has been overstretched.

The admission echoed assertions by the regime’s former officials, including former military spokesman Daniel Hagari, who stressed, way through the war, that Hamas was there to stay given its fraternal ties with Gaza’s grassroots and its popularity and support base within the region.

Citing Israeli top brass, the army radio, meanwhile, underlined that – amid the situation – things could not go on like this.

“Even in the event of a comprehensive deal to end the war, the army clarified that it would [still] be prepared for the deal, regardless of the cost,” it said.

“In closed-door sessions, the Chief of Staff warns that a prolonged stay in the Gaza Strip puts Israeli forces at risk. This is in addition to the increasing erosion of the army’s capabilities. Therefore, if no deal is reached, two options will be presented to the political leadership.”

Zamir concluded by saying that even if the regime went on to implement its globally discouraged plan to occupy the entire Gaza, it would take it “several more years” to clear the Palestinian territory out.

At the current pace, though, according to the army, “instead of draining Hamas, Hamas will drain them through continued guerrilla warfare.”
