In an interview with Al-Masirah TV, Al-Sharabi emphasized that this battle revealed fundamental shifts in the naval warfare arena and redefined the concept of military superiority.
He explained that the confrontation showcased a transformation in the nature of naval warfare, where “asymmetric” tactics and weapons were skillfully employed to counter the United States’ conventional military power, including aircraft carriers and naval fleets.
Al-Sharabi confirmed that the battle forced Washington to reassess the role of its warships — particularly aircraft carriers, once considered the “core of the sea” for US power — and has negatively impacted American naval dominance as a whole.
He also pointed to a critical aspect revealed by the battle: the depletion of the US strategic stockpile of vital munitions. Citing statements from US Senators Mitch McConnell and Chris Coons, along with reports from USA Today, he said the campaign against Yemen has caused “disruptions in American stockpiles.”
According to Al-Sharabi, the usage rate of American missiles such as the SM-2, SM-6, and SM-3 has far exceeded their annual production capacity. The SM-3 missile — costing up to $60 million and produced in limited quantities — was deployed in the Red Sea, placing a huge burden on the United States. This depletion not only inflicts material losses but also undermines US plans for future battles, exposing a “defensive gap” to its adversaries.
He added that the battle has “toppled the concept of military superiority” long upheld by the US through its aircraft carriers, strategic missiles, and stealth aircraft. These warships, he argued, no longer achieve the intended results and have instead become a “strategic burden and liability.”
Al-Sharabi further noted that the decline of US dominance in the region — and the humiliating withdrawal of its fleet after suffering significant losses — has caused regional allies to lose confidence in Washington’s protective umbrella. This, he said, opens the door for the emergence of a “new regional power” and forces a complete rethinking of the Middle East’s balance of power.
Since late 2023, Yemen’s Armed Forces have dramatically escalated their military operations in response to the Israeli enemy's war on Gaza and the broader US-British support for it. As part of their declared solidarity with the Palestinian people, Yemen has launched a sustained campaign targeting Israel-linked ships in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and beyond—expanding its strategy to include aerial and maritime blockades on the Israeli entity.
Yemen’s increasing use of ballistic and hypersonic missiles, along with advanced drones, has shifted the balance of power in regional waters, creating serious concern within US and Israeli defense establishments. Analysts now describe the conflict as one of the most significant maritime confrontations since World War II, with implications far beyond the Red Sea.
