News- Middle East: A high-ranking delegation from the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has arrived in Egypt for talks aimed at halting Israel’s genocidal assault on the Gaza Strip.

Led by senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya, the delegation arrived in Cairo on Tuesday at the invitation of the Egyptian government.

According to sources, the talks will focus on the ongoing Israeli war in Gaza as well as recent developments in the occupied West Bank, al-Quds, and the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Senior Hamas official Taher al-Nono stated that the delegation has begun preliminary discussions ahead of full meetings scheduled for Wednesday.

The meetings between the Egyptian and Palestinian officials will focus on ways to stop Israel’s war on Gaza, allow the entry of aid into the strip and put an end to the suffering of Gazans.

The upcoming talks are also expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations with Egypt, enhancing coordination among Palestinian factions, and achieving a national consensus on key political issues.

Last month, Hamas leader strongly condemned Israel and the United States for withdrawing from negotiations aimed at reaching a ceasefire in Gaza despite “clear progress” that had been made in the talks.

Khalil al-Hayya said the US and Israel were “wasting time” to intentionally hinder talks and facilitate the continued extermination of Palestinians in Gaza.

Israel has launched a genocidal war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, after Palestinian resistance fighters waged the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the Zionist entity in response to the regime's decades-long campaign of death and devastation against Palestinians.

The regime’s bloody onslaught on Gaza has so far killed 61,722 Palestinians and injured 154,525 others, mostly women and children.
