News- Middle East: Israel is committing “medicide” in Gaza through the systematic destruction of the territory’s healthcare system, UN experts have warned.

Tlaleng Mofokeng, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to health, and Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory, said Israel is deliberately dismantling Gaza’s medical infrastructure as part of its broader genocidal campaign.

“Health and care workers have been continuously targeted, detained, tortured, and are now, like the rest of the population, being starved,” they said.

“In addition to bearing witness to an ongoing genocide, we are also bearing witness to a ‘medicide’—a sinister component of the intentional creation of conditions calculated to destroy Palestinians in Gaza.”

The experts also warned that as human beings “we cannot remain silent about the war crimes committed before our eyes in Gaza.”

Rights groups and health organizations have long documented Israel’s targeting of Gaza’s medical infrastructure through repeated air strikes, blockades on medical supplies, and restrictions on patients seeking treatment abroad.

55,000 pregnant women suffering from malnutrition

The latest warning comes as the director of Gaza’s al-Shifa Medical Complex reported that 55,000 pregnant women are suffering from malnutrition.

He said the hospital can no longer provide essential services, and that three children with paralysis are at risk of dying due to lack of treatment.

With no safe drinking water in Gaza City, cases of gastroenteritis are rising sharply, while patients with chronic conditions such as heart disease have been left without medicine or care.

Health officials warn that without urgent action, Gaza’s hospitals will collapse entirely, leaving millions of civilians without lifesaving care and holding the world accountable for standing by in silence.
