Secretary of the Islamic Republic’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani made the remarks during an address delivered in the Lebanese capital Beirut on Wednesday.
The official, who was speaking near the burial place of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the former secretary-general of the Lebanese resistance movement, told the Lebanese youths that their loyalty to patience and resistance was the truest way to repay their debt to the martyr.
“We may have lost him, but his sons, raised in his school of thought, live on,” the Iranian official said, adding that the animosity of enemies only proved the movement’s power and steadfastness.
Nasrallah as the ‘pride of Islam’
Larijani praised Nasrallah as a living and enduring force as well as a source of dignity and honor for the entire Muslim world.
The path Nasrallah laid out, he said, fused intellectual maturity with tireless struggle, and his followers remained active at the heart of the organization he used to lead.
The Iranian official assured the movement’s fighters that the Islamic Republic would consistently stand beside them, stressing that the country did not interfere in the domestic affairs of other nations, but would never abandon its support for the resistance front.
A man consumed by his cause
Calling Nasrallah a “great man” and an “invaluable asset” to Islam, Larijani described him as a leader, whose life embodied authentic Islamic ideology, deep spirituality, and untiring dedication to the cause of struggle against Western-backed Israeli occupation and aggression.
He recalled meeting with the martyr on the Lebanese–Syrian border, noting that the martyr’s words bespoke his “having been entirely consumed” with dedication to remaining on the path of God.
The former Hezbollah leader is survived by an enduring legacy, marked by his leadership savvy and numerous inspiring speeches, through which he would effectively encourage Lebanese and regional struggle against the occupying regime.
Under Nasrallah, who continues to enjoy a millions-strong following across the international community, especially the Muslim world, Hezbollah fought off two wholesale Israeli wars on Lebanon in 2000 and 2006.
He was martyred during Israeli airstrikes against Beirut’s Dhahiyeh neighborhood last year.
The strikes were part of Tel Aviv’s intensified deadly aggression towards Lebanon in response to Hezbollah’s determined solidarity operations in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who had come under a genocidal Israeli war.
