Martyr Ahmed Al-Rahwi: A Statesman Who Chose the Homeland and Confronted Aggression

Yemen: In a final testimony to his loyalty to the homeland and the cause, Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi was martyred in an Israeli enemy airstrike that targeted the capital, Sana’a.

From Abyan to Sana’a: A National Journey

Born in the Khanfar district of Abyan, Al-Rahwi was the son of the well-known political and social figure Ghaleb Nasser Al-Rahwi. When the aggression began in 2015, his home in Abyan was destroyed by Al-Qaeda, and he survived multiple assassination attempts. These events eventually led him to settle in the capital, Sana’a.

Despite repeated targeting, Al-Rahwi never stepped back from the frontlines of national resistance. He moved between various responsibilities, working to manage the internal front and support the liberation of occupied areas.

Administrative Experience in Service of the Nation

Al-Rahwi previously served as governor of Abyan, later as its deputy governor, then as deputy governor of Al-Mahwit. He was eventually appointed as a member of the Supreme Political Council by presidential decree. Exactly one year before his martyrdom, he assumed the premiership at one of the most critical moments in Yemen’s history, bringing with him extensive administrative experience and a clear political vision.

Steadfast Stances and Supreme Sacrifice

Known for his calm demeanor and ability to transcend partisan lines, Al-Rahwi prioritized inclusive national work. His principles were unwavering, especially in regard to just causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, which he described as a “central, religious, Islamic, and fraternal cause.”

He carried part of the responsibility for Yemen’s support to Gaza, continuing his governmental struggle until his very last moment. Al-Rahwi sealed his life with what his colleagues described as a “jihadist conclusion,” following in the footsteps of martyr President Saleh Al-Sammad, embodying the Quranic verse: “Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah.”

Thus, Ahmed Al-Rahwi’s legacy remains that of a leader who chose sacrifice over safety, loyalty over compromise, and the nation over self.
