Western Media Downplays Impact of Israeli Aggression on Yemen’s Military Capabilities

News - Middle East: Prominent Western media outlets and analytical groups have assessed that the recent Israeli strike in Sana’a, which killed senior Yemeni government officials, is unlikely to significantly weaken the military capabilities of the Yemeni Armed Forces.

According to these analyses, while the attack carried symbolic and political weight, it targeted administrative figures rather than core military leaders, thereby limiting its operational impact on the battlefield.

The Financial Times noted that although “government figures” were killed in Sana’a, the strike is “not expected” to substantially affect Yemen’s military capacity, since the officials were primarily administrative rather than frontline military commanders.

Similarly, the Associated Press reported that the Israeli strike hit “senior officials during a meeting,” but did not eliminate key military leaders or critical assets, reducing the likelihood of any significant disruption to weapons production or military infrastructure.

The Wall Street Journal also described the attack as “symbolic,” emphasizing that it was not decisive from a military perspective, as those killed were not part of the core command structure of Yemen’s Armed Forces.

In broader assessments, Western think tanks and observers stressed that Yemen’s military capabilities have demonstrated resilience and adaptability in the face of repeated strikes.

The International Crisis Group highlighted that Sana’a’s forces have “expanded their capabilities,” including the deployment of cluster munitions and ballistic missiles, making them increasingly adaptable against airstrikes and enhancing their overall resistance.

Meanwhile, open-source monitoring platforms pointed out that even larger-scale US strikes in the past had failed to inflict “decisive destruction” on Yemen’s military capacity. Despite heavy human and infrastructural losses, the Yemeni Armed Forces continued to launch ballistic missile and drone attacks, underscoring their ability to absorb strikes and reorganize.

Based on this consensus, analysts concluded that while the assassination of senior Yemeni officials represents a display of Israeli intelligence reach, it does not mark a turning point in the ongoing military confrontation.
