Report: Bab al-Mandab Traffic Peaks; Israeli-Linked Ships Face Critical Threat
News - Yemen: Maritime journal Lloyd’s List reported that vessel traffic through the Bab al-Mandab Strait in August reached its highest level since January 2024.
According to the publication, Yemeni authorities have reassured the shipping sector that vessels are safe if they follow local rules. Data show ships linked to China and Greece dominate passage, while threats to Israeli-affiliated vessels remain critical.
In a related analysis, The Maritime Executive noted that Yemeni military activity in the Red Sea and surrounding waters is intensifying, particularly against Israeli vessels and those associated with them.
The Bab al-Mandab Strait is a strategic chokepoint connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, with around 10 percent of global seaborne trade passing through it. Since May 2025, the Yemeni Armed Forces have declared restrictions on Israeli-linked air and maritime traffic, extending their operations to pressure the Zionist entity over its war on Gaza. While most international shipping has continued, risk assessments for Israel-affiliated vessels remain at the highest levels.
