Yemen's Foreign Ministry Urges International Action Against Israeli Aggression on Hodeidah Port

News - Yemen: The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by condemning the recent Israeli aggression on Hodeidah port and pressuring the entity to halt its aggression against Yemen.

In an official letter sent by Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein Al-Ezzi to the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, UN member states, the European Union, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, the ministry condemned Tuesday’s Israeli aggression that targeted Hodeidah port.

The letter emphasized that Hodeidah port serves as a vital lifeline for millions of Yemenis, handling nearly 80 percent of the country’s imports of food, medicine, fuel, and other essential goods. The strikes, it warned, would worsen the already dire humanitarian crisis Yemen has faced for over a decade, deepen food insecurity, and obstruct the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The ministry reiterated that Israeli enemy's crimes would not deter Yemen from its steadfast support for Gaza, but would instead intensify its military operations in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Deputy Minister Al-Ezzi further noted that the attack coincided with a UN Security Council session on Yemen, underscoring Israeli enemy’s disregard for international law.

The ministry denounced the assault as a blatant violation of Yemen’s sovereignty, the UN Charter, international law, and international humanitarian law—particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and its 1977 Additional Protocol, which prohibit attacks on civilian infrastructure essential to survival.

Since July, the ministry added, the Israeli enemy has repeatedly targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure in Yemen, including the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Al-Salif, in a deliberate attempts to worsen the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people.

Hodeidah port is Yemen’s main entry point for commercial goods, fuel, and humanitarian aid, serving millions of people across the country. It has frequently come under attack during the years-long war, raising international concerns over the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen.

Since the start of the Israeli enemy’s war on Gaza, the Yemeni Armed Forces have escalated operations in solidarity with Palestinians, targeting Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea and launching strikes into occupied Palestine.
