The magazine viewed this step as carrying a direct threat of increased naval operations in the Red Sea, framed within the context of support for Gaza and its resistance.
According to the report, the Humanitarian Operations Coordination Center in Sana'a, established last year as an entity for communication with maritime traders, issued a decision to impose sanctions on 13 American oil companies, alongside 9 executives and two US-linked assets.
Prominent targeted companies include:
ExxonMobil
Chevron
ConocoPhillips
Marathon Petroleum
Valero
Occidental
Phillips 66
The sanctions also targeted the CEOs of these companies, including:
Darren Woods (ExxonMobil)
Mike Wirth (Chevron)
Ryan Lance (ConocoPhillips)
The magazine quoted the Center's Executive Director stating that it "will use all available means to confront any hostile actions targeting Yemen," emphasizing that the decision was based on the principle of reciprocity in response to US sanctions against Yemen.
According to the report, the motivations for the step stemmed from a loss of confidence in the truce and agreement process, an attempt to maintain a negotiating leverage card, and a reaction to undisclosed US actions believed to violate the spirit of the truce.
The report confirmed that the essence of the decision is to send a clear message that the Yemenis still possess the capability to confront, warning that these sanctions could lead to an intensification of operations against oil tankers linked to the American companies in the Red Sea, further heating up the geopolitical scene in the region.
Yemen has been a staunch supporter of Palestine and has repeatedly launched drones and missiles towards the Israeli enemy in solidarity with Gaza. It organizes weekly mass rallies, condemning the genocidal war in Gaza. This latest gathering follows Israeli aggression on civilian infrastructure in Sana'a.
The Israeli enemy has so far killed at least 66,225 Palestinians, mostly women and children, since it launched the genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023.
