The president of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (Mapim), Muhammad Azmi Abdul Hamid, said on Wednesday that the fourth Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian aid convoy is expected to depart for Gaza in the middle or at the end of November.
The GSF would benefit from the previous thwarted attempt and prepare the convoy with a more organized strategy to break through the Israeli blockade.
“We are planning to enter the waters of Gaza before Ramadan. Therefore, we are targeting that the convoy should begin its journey by the middle or the end of next month at the latest.
“We will also hold discussions at the international level to review the three previous flotilla missions that were intercepted by the Israeli military and to draw up a strategy to break through their blockade,” he told reporters at the Mapim headquarters in Shah Alam on Wednesday.
According to his remarks, the flotilla will consist of 1,000 boats and ships from all over the world carrying various types of aid, before assembling in the Mediterranean Sea.
Several groups from the waters of Gibraltar, Barcelona, Tunisia, Italy, and Turkey will join the convoy and will try to enter the waters of Gaza separately.
Earlier this month, the Israeli military launched an attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla, a 44-strong fleet, as it neared Gaza, detaining about 500 activists from more than 40 countries.
Gaza, home to some two million Palestinians, has been under Israeli siege since June 2007, long before Israel’s genocide and complete blockade of the strip.
