Growing Public Anger in Yemen's Occupied Southern Provinces as Power Outages Deepen Living Crisis

News – Yemen: A wave of public anger is intensifying across the occupied city of Aden and the southern and eastern provinces under Saudi-UAE occupation, as the pro-aggression government continues to fail in providing basic services—most notably electricity.

The near-total collapse of the power sector has exposed, according to residents, the true nature of the aggression and the pro-aggression government, which they say operates from resorts and foreign capitals while citizens endure daily hardship.

In the occupied province of Lahj, residents have been living in complete darkness for more than 45 consecutive days, with power stations shut down and fuel supplies unavailable. Locals widely blame the pro-aggression government for the worsening crisis.

Other occupied provinces—including Mahrah, Aden, Abyan, and Shabwah—are experiencing similarly catastrophic conditions, with outages reaching 18 hours per day. The prolonged cuts have severely disrupted hospitals, disabled water wells, and caused dangerous temperature rises inside homes, in addition to major losses in food supplies due to halted refrigeration.

Activists on social media say what is happening amounts to collective punishment inflicted by the pro-aggression authorities in favor of entrenched corruption that has persisted for a decade. They point out that officials spend millions on travel and personal allowances while failing to secure even a single shipment of fuel for vital services that mean the difference between life and death.

Residents also express growing anger at the continued waste of public funds by the client government, describing it as the most corrupt and administratively degraded model in Yemen’s modern history—one that arrived “on the backs of Saudi and Emirati tanks.”

Observers say the crisis reflects a complete institutional collapse driven by a deep network of corruption managed by the Saudi-UAE coalition through its local proxies. They stress that the government has no intention of improving the situation, operating instead under the principle: “Remain in darkness, while we remain in comfort and light.”

The absence of any government plan, combined with deliberate negligence by the so-called Presidential Leadership Council, has worsened public frustration and raised the risk of street unrest. Analysts warn that the continuous outages and the resulting widespread anger are further evidence of the pro-coalition authorities’ inability to manage even the most basic services.

Across the occupied southern and eastern provinces, citizens now agree that the pro-coalition administration has become a heavy burden. For many, the crisis is no longer only about electricity, but about dignity and survival in the face of a government that sees citizens merely as a source of revenue and exploitation.

Since 2015, Saudi-UAE occupation authorities have maintained tight control over southern Yemen, relying on fragmented local forces and rival administrations. Years of corruption, mismanagement, and the diversion of revenues have led to repeated fuel shortages and long-term electricity failures, especially during summer months. The ongoing collapse of essential services continues to fuel public anger and deepen the divide between residents and the pro-aggression authorities.
