President Mashat on Independence Day: Yemen Once Expelled British Occupation, Can Today Defend Its Sovereignty, Stand Firm Against Any Invader

News - Yemen: Yemen's President Mahdi Al-Mashat delivered a powerful address on the 58th Independence Day, congratulating the Leader of the Revolution and the Yemeni people while reaffirming Yemen’s steadfast commitment to freedom and sovereignty.

Al-Mashat praised the heroes of the October 14 Revolution, saying November 30 remains a lasting symbol of pride and dignity. He emphasized that independence from British occupation serves as a constant reminder that freedom is not granted, but rather seized through struggle and sacrifice.

The president highlighted the unity of Yemen’s forefathers, who proved that a determined people can defeat even the strongest empires. He warned, however, that new forms of occupation—both direct and indirect—have emerged, attempting to undermine Yemen’s sovereignty.

Al-Mashat criticized the return of foreign influence “through the shadows under new names,” accusing Britain and its allies of reviving old colonial tactics, including dividing Yemenis and empowering rival militias. He said the occupied regions have transformed into arenas of chaos, where services collapse, resources are plundered, and security disappears.

He condemned the “traitors” who he said dream of returning to power on American and Israeli tanks, insisting they cannot be trusted with the nation’s historic achievements or its future.

Despite these challenges, Al-Mashat affirmed that Yemen — its men, women, and free people — remains a fortified wall against all forms of aggression. He vowed to protect the sacrifices of martyrs, safeguard the legacy of October 14 and November 30, and liberate every inch of Yemeni territory.

Concluding his remarks, the president praised the resilience of the Yemeni people throughout years of aggression, reaffirming that “victory is closer” and promising continued efforts to end their suffering and achieve stability and prosperity.

November 30 marks the anniversary of South Yemen's independence from British colonial rule in 1967. This historical event is often commemorated by drawing parallels between the past anti-colonial struggle and the current occupation by the Saudi-UAE aggression supported by Western nations.
