Saudi–UAE Rivalry Fuels Escalating Violence, Chaos in Yemen’s Occupied Provinces

News - Yemen: Ongoing power struggles between Saudi- and UAE-backed factions continue to inflame instability across Yemen’s occupied provinces, where fierce internal clashes are deepening divisions and worsening the humanitarian and security situation. The renewed violence highlights an intensifying contest for influence between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi—fought at the expense of civilian safety and regional stability.

In the latest developments, a local source in Taiz reported that a civilian was injured and several vehicles were damaged after a shell fired by Saudi-backed militias struck residential homes in the Salah district. The incident is the newest example of what residents describe as a pattern of coercion and intimidation carried out by occupying forces and their allied groups against unarmed civilians.

Meanwhile, Hadhramawt has witnessed a surge in violent confrontations over the past days between rival militia groups affiliated with Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The clashes resulted in casualties and extensive damage to both public and private property, underscoring the deteriorating security landscape and growing lawlessness in the region.

Tensions escalated further after the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) deployed additional fighters toward Seiyun in preparation for an assault on the Saudi-aligned First Military Region, dominated by Islah-affiliated forces. Observers warn that this push aims to eliminate the last major Saudi-backed stronghold in eastern Yemen, paving the way for the UAE to consolidate control over resource-rich territories in the south and east.

These developments point to a broader strategy by the Saudi-UAE coalition that goes beyond military domination. Residents and analysts argue that the coalition’s policies have fragmented social structures, undermined economic stability, and entrenched a state of chaos and insecurity—conditions that threaten long-term peace across occupied areas.

The power struggle comes as civilians in these regions grapple with worsening living conditions, collapsing public services, and the depletion of vital resources, amid reports that coalition-aligned authorities are competing to extract and export the area’s oil and mineral wealth.
