Feb. 18 Over 9 Years: 19 Casualties in US-Saudi War Crimes on Yemen

Yemen: On February 18, across the years 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2022, the US-Saudi aggression deliberately committed war crimes and acts of genocide through brutal airstrikes, artillery, and missile bombardments.

Additionally, they engaged in psychological warfare by dropping misleading propaganda leaflets on homes, properties, residential neighborhoods, farms, a site for collecting war remnants, household gas trucks, telecommunications networks, and civilian facilities in the provinces of Sana’a, Sa'adah, Marib, and Hodeidah.

These attacks resulted in five martyrs and 14 injured, including women and children, the displacement of dozens of families, terrorizing civilians, environmental contamination with internationally prohibited radiation, worsening humanitarian suffering, targeting livelihoods, and exacerbating living conditions amid a dire shortage of humanitarian aid and the United Nations' silence, which encourages the continuation of aggression, blockade, and war crimes against civilians.

Key Details:

2016: Two Martyrs in a War Crime Targeting a Gas Truck and Car in Al-Jawf

On this day in 2016, the US-Saudi aggression committed a new war crime by directly targeting a gas truck and a gas-laden car in Aqaba, Bart Al-Anan district, Al-Jawf province. The attack resulted in two martyrs, reducing the vehicles to a heap of scrap metal and massive fireballs on the public road, cutting off transportation, instilling fear among travelers and locals, tightening the blockade, increasing suffering, and depriving citizens of essential supplies.

The horrifying scene of the destroyed vehicles, with gas cylinders exploding in all directions due to the airstrike, left the drivers' bodies charred. Their remains were gathered from the wreckage onto a plastic sheet—a horrific sight that shakes human conscience.

2016: Airstrikes Target Telecommunications Network and Homes in Sa'adah

On the same day, the aggression launched airstrikes targeting the telecommunications network in Al-Shat area, Sa'adah province, and dropped a missile carrying propaganda leaflets over Qahza area in Sahar district.

2016: US-Saudi Airstrike Targets Residential Area in Sana’a

In a separate incident on the same day, US-Saudi warplanes struck Al-Sultan Garden neighborhood in Al-Tahrir district, Sana’a, using an explosive missile that carried propaganda leaflets designed to wage psychological warfare. The strike caused physical damage to civilian homes, partially destroyed properties, and endangered residents' lives, triggering mass panic.

The attack led to:

  • Structural damage—collapsed walls and ceilings in several homes.
  • Disruption of electricity and infrastructure in the neighborhood.
  • Psychological trauma, especially among children, who suffered night terrors due to the explosion’s intensity.

These war crimes, along with many others over the past nine years, demand an international investigation into the US-Saudi aggression’s repeated massacres and collective punishment against Yemeni civilians. Urgent international action is needed to:

  • Lift the blockade on Yemen.
  • Stop the aggression.
  • Ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need.
  • Hold coalition leaders accountable for war crimes and violations of international law.
