Lebanese Man Killed as Israel Strikes South in Violation of Ceasefire

News-Middle East: In the latest blatant violation of a shaky ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, the Israeli military has carried out an attack in the Arab nation’s southern province of Nabatieh, killing at least one person.

The Public Health Emergency Operations Center at the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health announced in a statement that an Israeli drone fired a guided missile at a motorbike repair shop in the town of Taybeh on Monday.

The strike caused a fire in the area, and resulted in the death of an ordinary individual.

The attack came a day after two people were killed and two others injured in an Israeli airstrike that targeted an excavator and a vehicle in the western sector of southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported that an Israeli drone targeted an excavator and a vehicle between the town of Zibqin and the village of al-Shaaitiyeh in the Tyre district on Sunday.

“The strike on Zebqine, which targeted the excavator and the vehicle, resulted in two martyrs and injuries to two Syrian workers,” the report added.

A Lebanese security source identified the two people killed during the Israeli strike as Ali Salibi and Adnan Bazi.

Following significant losses sustained over nearly 14 months of conflict and the failure to meet its objectives in the offensive against Lebanon, Israel was compelled to accept a ceasefire with Hezbollah. This ceasefire took effect on November 27.

Since the commencement of the agreement, the occupying forces have been launching assaults on Lebanon, breaching the ceasefire, which includes airstrikes throughout the Arab nation.

On January 27, Lebanon announced its decision to extend the ceasefire with Israel until February 18.

Although the deadline of February 18 has passed, Israel continues to maintain its occupation of five significant regions in southern Lebanon, namely Labbouneh, Mount Blat, Owayda Hill, Aaziyyeh, and Hammamis Hill, all situated near the border.

Lebanon has condemned the continued presence of Israeli military forces, viewing it as a violation of the ceasefire agreement and the established timeline for withdrawal. Senior officials in Beirut have expressed their commitment to take "all necessary measures" to remove the occupying troops from the nation.
