American Failures in the Red Sea and Yemen’s Growing Capabilities Dominate Global Headlines

American Failures in the Red Sea and Yemen’s Growing Capabilities Dominate Global Headlines

World: The U.S. military’s failures in the Red Sea and the rising capabilities of Yemeni forces have become recurring themes in American and international media, particularly after the loss of an F/A-18 fighter jet from the USS Harry S. Truman—an incident that U.S. military experts describe as a major setback demanding serious reflection.

Retired Colonel Douglas Macgregor: "We Must Rethink This"

In televised remarks, retired U.S. Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor stated: "We need to take a hard look at what just happened in the Red Sea. We lost an F/A-18 because the USS Truman had to make a sharp maneuver to evade a missile fired by the Houthis.”

"This should give us pause," he added. Macgregor acknowledged that Yemeni forces now have the capability to provoke such incidents, highlighting the precision targeting of the USS Truman and its strike group. He admitted: "The United States is facing significant difficulties against the Yemeni Armed Forces."

Mocking U.S. claims of neutralizing Yemen’s military capabilities, he dismissed them as "completely baseless."

A Repeat of Vietnam?
Drawing historical parallels, Macgregor warned: "We’ve been here before—in Vietnam. How many times did we claim victory over the insurgency? How many times did we declare the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces defeated? Only to realize, time and again, that the enemy was far more resilient than we thought."

"Making such bold claims now is a mistake," he concluded, implying that Yemen’s battlefield realities have forced U.S. officials to break their silence and salvage what little credibility remains.

Retired Major Danny Davis: "The Yemenis Are Inflicting Heavy Losses"
Retired U.S. Army Major Danny Davis commented on Yemen’s operations, stating:
"They executed a real attack on our aircraft carrier with severe consequences—we lost a fighter jet."

Comparing U.S. failures under Trump and Biden, Davis noted: "Since Biden’s operations began in November 2023 to 'reopen the Red Sea,' 15 attack drones have been shot down. Since March 15, 2025, seven more have been shot down."

This, he argued, exposes the Trump administration’s disproportionate failures while dispelling any illusions of U.S. superiority amid Yemen’s repeated blows to Washington.

Davis conceded: "The Yemenis have become far more effective at downing aircraft and inflicting heavy losses on us."

Failed Strikes, Civilian Casualties, and No Gains
Davis admitted the futility of US operations in Yemen, which have killed civilians without achieving strategic objectives: "We’ve launched 800 strikes, killing civilians, but the Yemenis have nearly a decade of experience weathering such attacks. We must reconsider whether continuing this war serves U.S. interests—and I argue it does not."

U.S. Media: Calls for a Reality Check
Several American outlets reported statements from U.S. officers urging the Trump administration to reassess its aggression against Yemen, warning against "empty boasts of achievements" when facts prove otherwise.

Experts, analysts, and even officials within the U.S. Department of Defense are raising alarms over the consequences of prolonging the war in Yemen, arguing that Washington is sacrificing its reputation for Zionist interests—a sentiment echoed by many Americans themselves.
