Yemen Forces Truman Carrier Commander’s Removal, Deepening Cracks in US Military Leadership

World: The impact of Yemen’s deterrent operations against the American enemy continues to widen, causing further cracks within the US military establishment.

The American magazine The National Interest reported that the commander of the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman will be replaced upon its arrival in Norfolk, Virginia, in the coming weeks, following its withdrawal from the region last week amid its failure to counter Yemen.

The magazine highlighted the setbacks the Truman faced under the command of David Snowden in light of Yemeni operations, including the downing of three F-18 fighter jets.

It confirmed that US forces recently suffered “embarrassing tactical defeats.”

The magazine’s analysis suggests that Snowden’s dismissal stems from his failure to manage Yemeni operations—particularly the loss of aircraft due to Yemeni tactical strikes, which caused major disruptions to the carrier and its crew. The need for emergency evasive maneuvers, it added, likely led to further structural and operational complications, according to earlier US reports.

While criticizing the US Navy’s performance in the Red Sea, the magazine also confirmed that the US Air Force nearly suffered a severe blow in Yemeni airspace when an F-35 stealth fighter faced a “near-death encounter,” despite its advanced stealth technology—highlighting the growing capabilities of Yemen.

With the removal of Truman’s commander, the Yemeni Armed Forces have effectively deepened internal rifts within the US military, which had already seen the dismissal of five senior Pentagon officials in late April due to developments in the aggression on Yemen. The most prominent among them was Casper, a close associate of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

At the time, US reports cited leaks concerning offensive operations against Yemen as the primary reason for the dismissal of top advisers and officers within the Department of Defense.

Returning to the magazine’s report, The National Interest reinforced evidence of Washington’s defeat by citing “testimonies of political and military analysts” regarding the ceasefire agreement with Yemen, asserting that they admitted it was “a clear declaration of disgraceful defeat.”

The magazine described Yemen’s operations as “the most intense combat the US has faced since World War II.”

The mounting evidence affirms that the effects of Yemen’s military operations will continue to haunt the United States for a long time—especially amid growing international attention to successive admissions from Washington about the decline of its dominance. The latest came from US Vice President JD Vance, who acknowledged his country’s defeat and its loss of deterrence despite its military capabilities.
