In a statement issued on Tuesday, the organization noted that Sana'a International Airport is a vital lifeline for Yemeni civilians, many of whom rely on it as their only means of accessing essential medical care.
“By targeting the airport, the Israeli military has severed this crucial lifeline, leaving many Yemenis without their main channel to the outside world,” the statement said.
Previously, Human Rights Watch had also condemned the Israeli airstrike on the Port of Hodeidah, describing it as a potential war crime due to its threat to food supplies, aid, and electricity for millions of Yemenis.
The group stated that the strikes on Hodeidah appeared to be either indiscriminate or disproportionately harmful in violation of international law. The attack may have long-term consequences for millions of Yemenis who depend on the port for food and humanitarian aid, reaffirming that the Israeli bombing of the port constitutes a war crime.
In recent months, Israeli airstrikes targeted both Sana'a International Airport and Hodeidah Port—lifelines for millions of Yemenis already enduring a humanitarian crisis due to years of conflict and blockade.
