Omar Assaf, coordinator of the Palestinian Popular Conference, said Monday that Yemen’s strikes on the entity and Umm al-Rashrash (Eilat) with ballistic missiles and drones highlight Sana’a’s determination to back the Palestinian people despite blockade and pressure.
“These operations strike at Israel’s economic and military infrastructure, shattering the myth of the ‘invincible army’ and placing hundreds of thousands of settlers in shelters,” Assaf stated. He added that disruptions at Ben Gurion Airport and Umm Al-Rashrash (Eilat) Port have caused mounting economic losses, especially as global shipping companies reroute trade around the Cape of Good Hope, bypassing Israeli enemy ports.
Politically, Assaf noted the timing of the operations coincides with international discussions—particularly led by the United States—about a possible ceasefire in Gaza. “By maintaining pressure, Yemen adds another layer to Israel’s crisis: military pressure from resistance forces, internal unrest due to insecurity, and growing diplomatic pressure abroad,” he explained.
Assaf stressed that the strikes demonstrate Palestine is not isolated but part of a wider regional resistance front, which he said boosts morale among Palestinians facing months of relentless bombardment. He argued that Yemen’s actions, combined with worldwide protests, are deepening Israel’s political isolation and could accelerate the path toward a political settlement to halt the war in Gaza.
Yemen has emerged as a key player in the Gaza war, using ballistic missiles and drones to strike deep inside Israeli territory, including Eilat and economic hubs like Ben Gurion Airport. Despite years of blockade, Sana’a has developed a domestic military industry with advanced missile and drone capabilities, enabling it to challenge Israel’s security and economic stability.
