Israeli Enemy Media: Yemeni Drones Pose New Strategic Threat, Exposing Vulnerabilities in Air Defense

News - Middle East: The Israeli newspaper Globes has reported that Yemeni drones have become the new primary threat facing the air defense systems of the Israeli entity, especially following recent successful strikes on the city of Eilat (Umm al-Rashrash).

The newspaper indicated that the "Israeli" security establishment previously believed it possessed an ideal defense system, but the Yemeni attacks have revealed a "sensitive weak point."

Brigadier General Ran Kochav, the former commander of the "Israeli" Air Force's Aerial Defense Division, told the newspaper that the continuation of these attacks could lead to the "evacuation of Eilat's residents or the closure of its airport," describing the situation as a "strategic threat."

Kochav pointed out that the Iron Dome system faces limitations in intercepting drones due to their low-altitude flight, confirming that detecting them over the sea is extremely difficult—a challenge starkly highlighted by the Yemeni attacks on "Yafo" and Eilat.

He added that the Yemenis have "identified weaknesses in Eilat, Ramon, and Lod Airport, and launch a number of drones and missiles weekly, causing significant attrition." This, he noted, has disrupted the enemy's calculations regarding the "economics of armament," as the Israeli entity did not enter this conflict with a winning card in the realm of defense against drones.

Israeli enemy media and former military officials are raising concerns that Yemeni drone attacks are exposing critical vulnerabilities in the nation's air defense systems, particularly in the strategic southern city of Eilat.

Since formally announcing participation in the support campaign for Gaza, Yemeni forces have increasingly employed long-range missiles and drones against targets across occupied territory and strategic nodes tied to the occupation’s transport and military infrastructure.

The latest reported use of a hypersonic, multi-warhead missile signals what the Yemeni military describes as a new phase of reach and lethality, while the synchronized use of UCAVs demonstrates an operational preference for multi-vector attacks designed to complicate interception and increase the chance of mission success.
