News - Middle East: The US Navy announced on Thursday that the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman collided with a large commercial ship in the Mediterranean Sea after departing the Red Sea.

An investigation is underway into the collision, but no further details are available at this time, the commander of the US Sixth Fleet stated.

Between December 21, 2024, and January 17, 2025—just one day before a ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian resistance and Israel took effect—the Yemeni Armed Forces launched seven attacks on the Truman, including prolonged engagements lasting several hours. Now, the Truman has left the Red Sea in humiliation, having failed to protect Israel.

During its involvement in Israel’s aggression against Gaza, the United States sought to shield Israel by increasing its military presence in the Red Sea, effectively militarising the region and disrupting international shipping.

Despite deploying aircraft carriers and warships, the US failed to protect Israel from Yemeni retaliatory strikes in support of Gaza. It also failed to safeguard Israeli maritime interests, as the Yemeni Armed Forces successfully imposed a blockade.

As part of the Battle to Support Gaza, the Yemeni Armed Forces forced three US aircraft carriers out of the region: USS Abraham Lincoln, USS Eisenhower, and USS Truman. Additionally, the USS Roosevelt, which had initially been en route to the Red Sea, reversed course and withdrew before even entering the Yemeni Armed Forces' operational zone.
