The US-Saudi Aggression Escalates on February 21 in Multiple Years

Yemen: On February 21 of the years 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019, the US-Saudi aggression escalated in committing acts of genocide and horrific massacres through direct airstrikes and bombardments by its mercenaries. These attacks targeted homes, vehicles, public roads, aid transport trucks, and the tents of nomadic Bedouins in the governorates of Saada, Al-Jawf, Sanaa, and Hodeidah.

The assaults resulted in 58 martyrs and 30 wounded, most of whom were women and children, in addition to the displacement of numerous families, depriving them of shelter, worsening their suffering, and leaving behind horrifying scenes of torn and charred bodies, mass graves, food shortages, and destruction of civilian properties. The attacks also obstructed travelers, spread fear among residents, and left an indescribable wave of grief and oppression.

February 21, 2016 – 31 Martyrs and 25 Injured, Mostly Women and Children
On February 21, 2016, the US-Saudi aggression committed two war crimes against five Yemeni families by targeting civilian homes in the Ghafira area of Al-Dhaher district, Saada governorate, as well as another home in Dhahyan, Majz district.

The brutal airstrikes resulted in the deaths of 31 civilians and the injury of 25 others, most of them children and women. Several houses were completely destroyed, neighboring properties suffered severe damage, and dozens of families were displaced in a horrifying scene that shook the conscience of humanity.

February 21, 2016 – 6 Martyrs, Mostly Women and Children, in a Car Targeted in Khawlan Al-Tiyal, Sanaa

On the same day in 2016, the US-Saudi air force committed another war crime by directly targeting a civilian vehicle carrying an entire family in the Bani Dhibyan area of Khawlan Al-Tiyal district, Sanaa governorate. The airstrike turned their journey into a fiery massacre, incinerating everyone inside.

February 21, 2017 – 6 Martyrs, Including 3 Children, in Al-Jawf
A year later, on February 21, 2017, the aggression added another war crime to its record, targeting the family of Saleh Shalour in the Red Mountain area of Al-Humaydat district, Al-Jawf governorate. The family, who lived as nomadic shepherds, was gathering firewood when they were struck by airstrikes, killing six people, including three children.

The targeting of civilians in their homes and tents is a blatant war crime and a violation of all humanitarian laws. It is a call for activists and human rights defenders to take action in exposing these crimes and advocating for justice.

February 21, 2018 – 15 Martyrs and 5 Injured in Saada
In 2018, the aggression committed three more war crimes in Saada, targeting civilians and humanitarian aid transport in Al-Safraa, Al-Bo Jabara in Kitaf district, and a residential home in the city, resulting in 15 martyrs and 5 wounded.

Al-Safraa: The aggression bombed a civilian truck carrying humanitarian aid, killing 15 people and wounding 4 others.

Kitaf: An airstrike targeted a public road, wounding a civilian and further isolating rural communities.

Saada City: A missile struck a home but failed to detonate, forcing the terrified residents to flee immediately.

February 21, 2019 – Ongoing Violations in Hodeidah
On this day in 2019, Hodeidah witnessed escalations as Saudi-Emirati mercenaries shelled civilian homes, causing extensive destruction and displacement. The attacks violated the Sweden ceasefire agreement, worsening the humanitarian crisis in the region.

The continued targeting of civilians, homes, and infrastructure highlights the urgent need for international action to end the aggression, lift the blockade, and hold perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
