New Torture Crime in Saudi-Backed Prisons Under Islah Party Control Sparks Outrage

New Torture Crime in Saudi-Backed Prisons Under Islah Party Control Sparks Outrage

News - Yemen: A new crime of brutal torture has been reported in prisons controlled by the Saudi-backed Islah Party in occupied Marib, targeting detainees.

This follows the recent killing of poet Rashid Al-Hatam, whose death in the aggression-backed mercenary prisons in Marib continues to reverberate. The incident has prompted dozens of activists on social media to label these prisons as "Marib's Sednaya," referencing the notorious Syrian prison.

Abdulqadir Al-Murtada, head of the National Committee for Prisoners' Affairs, revealed that the latest victim is detainee Abdul Latif Jamil Rashid Al-Jumaili. Al-Jumaili was abducted and detained three months ago in a political security prison. His body was later found dumped on a street in Marib, bearing clear signs of torture.

In a post on his personal "X" account on Monday, Al-Murtada described the Islah Party's prisons in occupied Marib as a "real catastrophe."

Activists have widely circulated details of this new crime, comparing the prisons to Sednaya. They explained that Al-Jumaili was arrested three months ago and transferred to a detention center. Despite his family's efforts to follow up on his case and secure his release, he was found dead, wrapped in a blanket, with visible torture marks.

This incident follows the deaths of two other detainees within less days: poet Rashid Al-Hatam from Al-Bayda and Majid Mubarak Al-Amiri Al-Jahmi from Sarwah. Both cases sparked widespread condemnation and highlighted the systematic torture in Reform Party prisons, which has led to numerous deaths.

Local statistics indicate that dozens have been killed in these prisons due to torture, with many others suffering permanent disabilities. Some victims' bodies remain stored in refrigerators at hospitals in occupied Marib.

It is worth noting that Al-Hattam was abducted by Islah mercenaries while he was in Marib in mid-January, shortly after the announcement of the ceasefire in Gaza. His abduction followed his public chanting of slogans such as "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" in celebration of the Palestinian resistance’s victory, during a live broadcast on his Facebook account.

With this crime, the Islah Party has once again demonstrated its ongoing campaign of killing, kidnapping, imprisoning, and torturing those who oppose the American and Zionist agendas. Furthermore, its militias continue their routine practice of arbitrarily arresting passersby and travelers, subjecting them to severe torture without any legal justification.

Many citizens have reported cases of kidnapping, extortion, and robbery while traveling through occupied Marib, particularly along the Al-Abr route. Armed gangs, reportedly supported by mercenary authorities, frequently abduct, loot, and even kill travelers.

These actions in the occupied provinces constitute war crimes and blatant violations of international human rights and humanitarian law. However, human rights organizations have largely remained silent on these atrocities.
