The Eye of Humanity Center for Rights and Development strongly denounced what it described as a heinous crime and a blatant violation of all international norms and conventions. The Center condemned the direct and deliberate US airstrikes on Ras Issa oil port in the Al-Salif district of Hodeidah on Thursday night.
In a statement on Friday, the Center said, “This blatant aggression resulted in the martyrdom and injury of dozens, all of them innocent civilian workers and employees carrying out their daily duties at this vital facility. It also caused severe damage to the port.”
The statement described the attack as “a dangerous escalation that adds to a long record of systematic violations aimed at suffocating the Yemeni people and deepening their suffering, in a desperate attempt to break their resilience and their legitimate defense of their land and rights.”
The rights group asserted that targeting a civilian facility in such a brutal manner constitutes a full-fledged war crime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law—particularly the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure unrelated to military operations.
The Center renewed its call on the international community—especially the United Nations and human rights organizations—to urgently condemn this aggression, launch an independent investigation into its circumstances, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure they do not escape justice.
It also urged “the free voices of the world to stand by the patient Yemeni people, who continue to pay the price for their principled humanitarian and moral stance against the genocide committed by the Israeli occupation entity against innocent civilians in the Gaza Strip.”
Similarly, the Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemned the horrific crime committed by US warplanes in targeting the Ras Issa port in Hodeidah.
In its statement, the organization stressed that the strike is another crime added to the growing list of violations targeting civilian sites, public facilities, and Yemen’s critical infrastructure.
The organization confirmed that the continued American aggression and its deliberate targeting of Yemen’s economic resources constitutes a clear violation of all international treaties and conventions that prohibit attacks on civilian objects and non-combatants.
It highlighted that the airstrikes represent a flagrant breach of Article 25 of the 1907 Hague Convention and Articles 13 and 14 of Protocol II of the Geneva Conventions. The attacks also violate Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which classifies such acts as war crimes that warrant prosecution.
The organization warned that the ongoing US escalation threatens regional peace and security, and reflects a deliberate disregard for international humanitarian law, amid a shameful silence from the international community.
It held the United States fully responsible for these crimes and called on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to act immediately to halt the aggression and to launch a transparent and independent international investigation to hold perpetrators accountable.
On Thursday night, the US aggression launched 14 airstrikes targeting the Ras Issa oil port in Hodeidah, a key facility used for receiving imported oil containers. The attack resulted in a mounting toll of casualties, with the Health Office in Hodeidah reporting at least 38 martyrs and over 100 wounded as of the latest count.
According to local sources cited by Al-Masirah Net, the American strikes hit the port while workers were present, and further attacks resumed even as civil defense teams were attempting rescue operations—leading to additional deaths and injuries among first responders. Medical teams are currently overwhelmed as they treat victims, many of whom suffered severe burns and trauma.
This attack is part of a broader American military campaign that began on March 15, 2025, following Yemen’s decision to resume retaliatory strikes on Israel in response to the intensification of Israeli operations in Gaza. Since then, US airstrikes have consistently targeted civilian infrastructure across Yemen, including power stations, communication facilities, and water systems.
Washington claims the strikes are meant to safeguard freedom of navigation near Yemen’s waters. However, Yemeni authorities refute this, asserting their operations exclusively target vessels linked to Israel and are not directed at international shipping. The continued escalation by the US has significantly worsened the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, drawing condemnation from various regional and resistance movements.
