In a statement issued Sunday, the union condemned the US airstrikes on civilian facilities at the Ras Issa oil terminal, which killed 80 workers, employees, and drivers, and injured over 150 others—an initial toll expected to rise.
The statement described the targeting of civilian oil facilities used to meet the country's fuel needs as a full-fledged war crime and a blatant violation of international and humanitarian laws prohibiting attacks on vital infrastructure and civilian objects.
The union said international silence has emboldened the aggressor to continue targeting civilians and essential services, holding the US fully responsible for this and other crimes.
It stressed that this crime will not be forgotten or go unpunished, adding that the Yemeni people will pursue accountability through all legitimate means. The union urged the international community, the UN, and humanitarian organizations to take urgent and firm action, hold the perpetrators accountable, and ensure such atrocities are not repeated.
On Thursday evening, US forces committed a horrific massacre in Hodeidah by targeting Ras Issa Port, resulting in the death and injury of approximately 250 individuals—including port workers, medical personnel, and civilians who rushed to assist the victims.
The massacre has drawn widespread condemnation from Arab nations, international organizations, and human rights groups, further exposing the brutal nature of US actions in the region.
This American escalation only deepens the suffering of Yemeni civilians, reflecting a desperate attempt to pressure Yemen into halting its support for Gaza following Washington’s failure to secure a military victory.
This attack is part of a broader American military campaign that began on March 15, 2025, following Yemen’s decision to resume retaliatory strikes on Israel in response to the intensification of Israeli operations in Gaza. Since then, US airstrikes have consistently targeted civilian infrastructure across Yemen, including power stations, communication facilities, and water systems.
Washington claims the strikes are meant to safeguard freedom of navigation near Yemen’s waters. However, Yemeni authorities refute this, asserting their operations exclusively target vessels linked to Israel and are not directed at international shipping. The continued escalation by the US has significantly worsened the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, drawing condemnation from various regional and resistance movements.
