Human Rights Organizations Condemn US Airstrikes on Crowded Market in Sana’a, Call for International Investigation

News - Yemen: Two prominent Yemeni human rights organizations have strongly condemned the recent US airstrikes targeting residential neighborhoods in the capital, Sana’a, including the densely populated Furwah neighborhood and market in Sha'ub District.

In separate statements, the Eye of Humanity Center for Rights and Development and the Entesaf Organization for Women and Children’s Rights denounced the attacks as brutal and criminal acts that blatantly violate international humanitarian law. The airstrikes, which were launched on Sunday evening, resulted in the death of at least 12 civilians and injured more than 30 others, according to initial figures released by the Ministry of Health.

The Eye of Humanity Center emphasized that these deliberate attacks on civilian areas constitute war crimes and demanded urgent international intervention. The Center called on the international community, including the UN Security Council and the United Nations, to hold the perpetrators accountable and to put an end to the US aggression on Yemeni territory.

Similarly, the Entesaf Organization described the bombings as part of a long-standing pattern of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the US-led coalition in Yemen for over a decade. It accused US forces of systematically violating the core principles of international humanitarian law, including the principles of humanity, distinction, and proportionality.

Both organizations urged the formation of an independent and transparent international commission to investigate these serious violations and called on the United Nations and international rights organizations to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities to protect civilians and halt the ongoing aggression.

The US aggression has intensified its airstrikes on Yemen over the past month, killing over 200 people since March. The latest attack struck the densely populated Furwah neighborhood in Sana’a, killing at least 12 civilians and injuring more than 30. The assault targeted a crowded market in the Sha'ub District, and the death toll is expected to rise as rescue efforts continue.

These attacks are part of a broader US campaign claiming to deter Yemen from targeting Israel-linked vessels. However, Yemeni forces have vowed to continue their operations in the Red Sea and beyond until Israel ends its war on Gaza.

In response to the genocide in Gaza and foreign aggression, Yemen has imposed a strategic blockade on key maritime routes, aiming to disrupt arms shipments and pressure the global community to intervene in the humanitarian crisis.
