News- Middle East: Former British Member of Parliament and prominent broadcaster George Galloway says no country in the world has championed the cause of Palestine as steadfastly as the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Galloway made the remarks during the third edition of the International Sobh Media Festival in Tehran, where he was presented with the Special Martyr Ismail Haniyeh Award in recognition of his long-standing advocacy for Palestine and the broader resistance front.

In a passionate address, he credited Iran and its leadership with doing more than any other nation to end “the bondage, suffering, and endless sacrifice” endured by the Palestinian people. Yemen, he noted, comes a close second in terms of support for the Palestinian cause.

“No country on earth has done more to free the people of Palestine from bondage, suffering and endless sacrifices than the Islamic Republic of Iran. This is simply a matter of fact,” he stated.

“And though some useful idiots try to cloud this fact and enemies decry it, the truth is, when Palestine is finally free, Iran will be able to take its place in the panoply of heroes who made it possible.”

The leader of the Workers Party of Britain extended his gratitude to Iran, praising “the revolutionary people of Iran, your leadership, your heroes, and your martyrs—for your steadfastness in support of the Palestinian people.”

Galloway also shared a personal story that underscored his deep ties to the Palestinian struggle.

Recalling his journey with a humanitarian convoy aimed at breaking the Israeli regime’s blockade of Gaza, he described how martyred Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh had promised him a Palestinian passport.

However, due to shortages at the time, Haniyeh instead gave Galloway his own passport, a souvenir the former MP now describes as “one of his most treasured possessions.”

The International Sobh Media Festival, organized by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) World Service, is currently underway and attended by dozens of foreign guests.

The annual event aims to amplify voices and narratives often marginalized in Western media, particularly those aligned with resistance movements opposing imperialist forces.

Galloway’s remarks resonated powerfully within the context of the festival, which brings together prominent media figures, activists, and officials from around the world who support the axis of resistance, especially amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
