In exclusive remarks to Al-Masirah, Minister of Transport and Public Works Muhammad Al-Ayash Qahim said the Israeli enemy strikes on Yemeni ports and airports are an extension of the ongoing US-Saudi aggression that has sought to impose a blockade on Yemen for over a decade. He emphasized that reopening the airport and port is part of the broader confrontation with the enemy and a reaffirmation of Yemen’s steadfast position in support of Palestine.
“These achievements reflect the determination of our leadership, the dedication of honest professionals, and the support of the Yemeni people,” said Qahim. “We will not retreat; we will continue to support the Palestinian cause on all fronts.”
Qahim criticized the Israeli military’s failure to target Yemen’s military facilities, describing its strikes on civilian infrastructure as a sign of weakness. He also addressed critics from pro-coalition factions who lament the damage to Yemen’s infrastructure, calling their outcry “exposed and hypocritical” given their decade-long support for attacks on Yemen’s civilian facilities.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Sana’a International Airport, Khaled Al-Shaif, confirmed that the airport is now fully operational, following extensive repair and re-equipment work according to international aviation standards. Despite being heavily bombed, teams worked around the clock to restore runways, terminals, and security facilities in under a week.
“The airport has resumed international flights with full compliance with global security and technical standards,” said Al-Shaif. “Four flights have already landed and departed smoothly, and travelers expressed satisfaction with the quality of service.”
Al-Shaif noted that only one aircraft remains in the airport’s fleet due to previous strikes, but there is a plan to run two daily flights to Jeddah, especially to serve Yemeni pilgrims. However, a broader air blockade by the Saudi-led coalition still limits operations.
Both officials reaffirmed Yemen’s commitment to remain aligned with the Palestinian people and to continue confronting Israeli and American aggression, regardless of the challenges.
On May 6, the Israeli aggression launched a series of intense airstrikes targeting the capital Sana’a and Amran Governorate, marking a new escalation aimed at Yemen’s civilian infrastructure and vital facilities.
Dozens of Israeli warplanes also bombed the port city of Hodeidah.
Since March, the United States, along with Britain and Israel, has carried out multiple airstrikes on Yemen, claiming to have hit more than 1,000 targets.
The campaign aims to halt Yemeni military operations against Israeli and Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea as well as attacks targeting military sites deep within the occupied Palestinian territories.
