These massive losses came amid Yemeni escalation operations in support of Gaza, leading to the closure of the Um Al-Rashrash port and Lod Airport. The losses doubled after the True Promise operation, further damaging the economy of the usurping entity. Around 92% of incoming tourism collapsed, especially from European countries, and tourist seasons failed, severely impacting industrial sectors.
He noted that Ben Gurion Airport suffered enormous aviation losses, with dozens of flights canceled and many airlines postponing trips to the occupied entity. The entity relocated planes from the airport to other countries, disrupting commercial flights.
Al-Haddad explained that airlines are paying heavy costs and compensation to passengers due to flight cancellations, delays, and passenger security measures. The entity estimates losses of $40 million during the True Promise operation alone, just concerning El Al Airlines.
Meanwhile, overnight operations at the airport are no longer safe. 48 planes, most of which are no longer at the airport, have been redistributed to countries like Cyprus and Turkey—including the enemy prime minister’s plane. Even after the entity announced reopening its airspace, fears of another Yemeni strike on the airport remain high, and no airline has fully resumed operations, especially since Yemen’s threats against the airport persist.
Al-Haddad revealed that Ben Gurion Airport (Lod) previously had 140 travel destinations, but now only seven remain due to the Yemeni threat and the reluctance of international airlines to fly in the occupied airspace.
Since the Yemeni no-fly order took effect on May 4th, most airlines that did not officially suspend operations to and from the airport have incurred heavy losses. Continuing to fly in the occupied entity’s airspace is now a high-risk, economically unviable move for these companies.
Yemen has emerged as a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause, condemning the Israeli actions as criminal aggression aimed at starving and dehumanizing the people of Gaza. Yemen’s government has repeatedly called on the international community to break its silence and take meaningful action to alleviate the suffering and uphold human rights.
The Yemeni Armed Forces have declared they will not stop their assaults unless Israel ceases its ground and aerial offensives in Gaza, where more than 56,400 Palestinians have been killed since the onset of war on October 7, 2023.
